Hi SpeedDemon,

I would really appreciate that.. very kind of you to offer. Will PM for detail :)

@ Nic The problem is that I still think the 5 series is too much of a big heavy tank. Its not agile, will cost the earth to run fuel wise, and I also have a love affair with the BMW inline 6. I also don't think it looks as good as an E46 individual.

@Sank - you're right, I do need, and do want to drive a manual 330i. I just need to find one to go and drive. I'm aware that in driving terms, there is little difference between the different guises.
Oh, and the only rela benefit I see from the BMWP intake is the sound - would you agree?

I would say that the sound is the most noticeable difference, though BMW do claim it gives and 6HP of peak power, though guys in the US have actually gotten gains of double this which actually puts it up there and in some cases better than some of the top end aftermarket intakes available for the e46, and it looks a hell of a lot better than most of them.

Yea, i sort of like the idea of keeping the car as 'factory stock' as possible..

So, I just drove SpeedDemon's 2004 330i Sportpack Manual :) A huge thanks to him for lending me his time, and his car :D

At face value, the difference is quite substantial. It's not out of this world, but the with the bigger engine, and the manual gearbox, it was quite a bit more impressive. I could definitely feel the extra torque, and it really shunts in the first two gears. There's also a little extra excitement when you pass 4500rpm which i noticed ;) The car sounds better, and quite a bit more fun than the 325i i drove.

It is however, still very refined, which takes away from some of the excitement, but then again, you have to consider it for what it is. And for what it is, its pretty damn cool. With two passengers it'll happily accelerate relentlessly. SpeedDemon's car apparently has a decat and a Van de Graaf back box, and I was very impressed with this exhaust - as it was not too loud, nor was it intrusive at anytime. It made noise when you wanted it to, but could quiten down on teh highway and be very civil. I do think, however, that the car simply doesn't make enough induction noise for my liking, but that can be fixed easily ;)

Overall, it's definitely a huge improvement over the 325i auto that i drove. It's no M3, but still a fantastic car to drive, which has a bit of personality if need be.

Once again, a huge thanks to SpeedDemon for giving me the opportunity to experience the car.

Lively it is, the car just feels so much more alive than it does with the standard diff, the best way to describe it is the acceleration up here at altitude feels like the acceleration feels like it did at the coast with the standard diff, but the better part for me is the in gear acceleration like accelerating on the highway or out of a corner, just feels awesome.

Can't wait to get to drive my car at the coast with 3.38 diff :drool:

Yea, i suppose its good that there aren't any around right now, becuase the timing would be a bit off. From about March next year, I think the real search is on...

:biglol::roflol::biglol::roflol: yeah right :tease:

Having said that, you are obviously a 3 series man, and should get what you desire.
No point in being convinced otherwise, and the 330i e46 is a very very nice and competent piece of machinery
