i've been meaning to decat my e46 m3 for a while now just havnt got around to doing it,i did it myself yesterday(my brother has an exhaust shop) so that helped LOL
took me about 2hours, i removed the section with the cats in ubolted the whole section, cut the cats out and replaced it with straight pipes welded in the bungs for lambda sensor and voila.
car feels much more responsive and sounds like a screaming banshee
RASP CITY:inlove:
here are some pics

Sounds like a race car.

If its too loud inside you should consider 2 small resonators...it wont affect the freeflow but will subdue the noise, will also make it sound low & bassy...

yip good idea, my brother suggested that as well, going to drive it like this for a bit then fit the resonators:thumbs:

Okay.
I also run completely catless but the noise was unbearable and the resonators fixed the "problem".

Nice work

Ive been undecided about this for so long. Pity you dont have before and after videos. Im also scared to chop apart a functioning exhaust, thinking about just getting a straight new centre section made.

IS the exhaust louder as a whole? Or just the rasp?

So you have no problems with throwing error codes or anything like that?

just the rasp, im in two minds about the sound initially i thought it was a bit much but i spent the day driving the car today and im liking it, i will most probably do what twinz suggested ie: fit resonators
and no errors codes i just made sure the i placed the lambda sensors exactly where they fitted in the original pipe and at the same angle
ive got some more vids ill post them up tomorrow

I like the sound, my only concern with a decat (no resonators) is the low RPM drone that some get in 5th and 6th gear.

yes, please feedback on if there is any cabin drone at highway driving speeds

I want to do this too, I love the rasp,

ps, where is your brothers shop and will they do this for me?

Twinz - which will make it sound more low & bassy?
2 x long and small diameter resonators, or 2 x short and as-big-diameter-as-you-can-fit resonator in there?
Would an x pipe get rid of the rasp?

deep needs more volume so fit the biggest you can... dont mess to much with the exhaust because its easy to lose power with the M

An X pipe will make no difference to muting sound or getting rid of rasp. Alot depends on the quality of the rear mufflers. If the mufflers gave a deep, bellow sound before the decat it is unlikely it will rasp or be screetchy. The M3 e46 generally has a raspy note despite a decat, so expect it to be still there or "worse" after the decat. But the resonators will solve the problem....i think.

I suggest go (2 x long) as can fit into the available space (before the X pipe or what ever connection you use. Here some pix of the resonators I imported but made-up my own resonators based on the same technology. They fit any vehicle but the right size has to be cut for your car.

The inside of the resonators are just brilliant quality:
