Silly question but have you looked inside the glove compartment for another USB port? If you find one there, there a Y-Cable from BMW for R1000 that should sort out all your issues.

The USB port in the glove compartment is not for playing music. It's merely ther to copy music off USB onto the internal hard drive (of which the OP doesn't have)

Inorder for the Y-Cable to work, you need the usb port and aux to be in close proximity to one another. the glovebox usb and the centre console aux setup does not work for the Y-Cable.

Ok,well there is definitely no USB port in my cubby or under my arm rest,so I obviously have a basic system. Will speak to the guys at Tremor to find out what,if anything, they can do.

Have you given SMAC a call, they have units that interface with the i-drive, with your steeringwheel controls and have bluetooth for about R4k... Only problem is that they dont do fitment but they have a long list of approved stockists and fitment centres...

Awesome, thanks. I am going to get a hold of them as well and see what they can do for me. Thanks for all the info so far guys. I did a retrofit of a nav system into my E46 M3 that was less trouble than this!lol

Hi guys

Sorry, years late to this thread but what was/is the best solution here?
I have the same question of how to control music from the steering wheel.

Thanks
Brad

Hey Brad, there isn't one really. The old CCC systems that came with the snap in adapters didn't really support it, the newer CIC systems do. I am not sure if a firmware upgrade to the CCC system will enable this feature, or if you'd need to upgrade the Bluetooth module to a newer revision. The snap in adapters also only supported older phones, so if you have a newer generation iPhone, Samsung, Blackberry etc it wouldn't work. The other option is an aftermarket Bluetooth, like Parrot, that would probably give you the required functionality. I eventually gave up.
