A few months ago a stupid lady also drove into me. Problem was it was not my car. So first she also agreed to have her insurance pay for it, then she started playing dodge ball with me. In the end as it was not my car and I needed to return it, I just went and got a bumper from a contact of mine, and had it sprayed by him. cost me R2500.

Decided to let her go, as karma has a plan of her own.

Bumper stiffener... I was going to get a new one but have decided to give a go at fixing this I have some glass fiber and some high quality polyurethane resin so why not give it a go if I am unhappy with it I can bin it and buy one from the scrapyard

Technique i am using is 1st running glue into the cracks and clamping it into shape after that i will lay some glass fiber over to damaged area for extra strength

sprayed rear panel... removal of old one not so quick

Finally the CSL boot lid arrived

Basic Idea of how the panel comes of is... 1st you drill out the spot welds trying not to damage the under panel you dont want to replace

If you look carefully you can see the join line in the hole

next you grab you trusty hammer and chisel... always work towards the hole otherwise the metal make a long tear you need to clean up afterwards

Goal is to do as little damage as possible the one you removing can be chewed alot if it helps keep the bottom panel more intact

Technique used to attach the panel is rivets with specialized aerospace structural epoxy... this eliminates the need for welding in the body and will also make it easier to fix next time

while there I decided to fill the panel gap that is OEM on the sedan between the rear fender and the back panel should make the rear look a bit cleaner

Back to the boot lid... while it is some 7kg lighter than the OEM piece fitment is more or LESS... plenty work needed to get it right... made with pride in China...

1st issue rear lights did not locate correctly

Reason was there was no recess for the end clip of the light

so i had to cut one problem solved

or not... inside bulb holder could also not be fitted :s

some more cutting later

Next problem:

a few hours later

wiring loom has no hole to enter the boot and the area where it is supposed to go in is solid... not sure how I will resolve this problem to neaten it up...

also missed that there was a hole they forgot to drill... these will have to be resolved before paint

lid had alot of cosmetic damage from storage (not to happy with the supplier about this) good thing I did not opt for the 'carbon' option

I'm a big fan that you are fixing this yourself. However I have never been a fan of those poor quality boot lids, I would prefer an oem piece and blend in the CSL add on type spoiler to it. Those cheap boot lids don't hold up in a crash situation at all.
I must ask though, if insurance is covering this then don't they want some reputable panel beater shop doing the work?

3rd party claim so they paid me cash... I have had 3 of the family cars go into panel shops every time there were issues so I feel it is safer doing it myself

worst was my brothers polo where both the AC and power steering failed within 6 months because they were not connected correctly at the panel shop

im not sure I would get one of these boot lids again it was cheap but the amount of hours I put in make it not so cheap anymore...
