the boot lid I got has a silly double line that I did not like

so I decided to fill it before paint

IMG_2114%2B%281280x719%29.jpg

another issue was when I close the boot it struggles to latch I cut a piece out of the old boot lit to help this
IMG_2113%2B%281280x719%29.jpg

now separated from the skin

IMG_2119%2B%281280x719%29.jpg

next issue was the thickness of the material at the holes... this would not allow the plastic clips to fit correctly

I used a needle file to make it thinner

I stopped work on the bumper because Legacy said he had one for me

BIG thankyou to Sank for making it happen

IMG_2129%2B%281280x669%29.jpg

only thing to fix before paint was this dent at the exhaust cutout... my guess is this was once on a 318i and the exhaust was pushed up into it from an accident

IMG_2132%2B%281280x719%29.jpg

this time I did better with the heat gun and got it right no filler needed :)

IMG_2134%2B%281280x719%29.jpg

then its off to the painter... I did try my hand at painting but the results were not good (thought I had pics but cant find them I must have forgot to take some)

over night I would find large areas lifting :( I chalked it up to the paint getting to cold at night... after the second sand and spray I decided it was time to get a panel shop to do it as it was taking up too much time...

Sooo paint shop told me why i was having problems with paint... I used automotive silicone to seal the back panel and it was lifting where ever I touched the panel while applying it...

very stupid mistake lol anyway I had spent enough time on it by now and need the car done so paid them to do all the paint work I will try paint again some time

boot lid had to go in a second time as I was not happy with it 1st time

I was misty the other day so decided to take some pics... mist did not really show on the camera but pics came out OK

I need to still make one or two alterations to the inside of the boot kid before the trim pieces go back

At some stage I would like to address the panel gaps around the lid by adding more material and repainting... for now it will do and I have a boot that seals so I can drive in the rain lol

I am 90% happy with this over all... it is the 10% that gets you though and the 10% is in the panel gaps caused by the boot lid then again I am probably too critical about it because I did the job...

will take more pics when I can of the car clean :)
