Small accident

This weekend I was waiting at a red traffic light when suddenly I got hit from behind quite hard. I looked in the rear view and side mirrors right away because my first instinct was I was being hijacked, my girlfriend was quite worried. But after I saw the surroundings were ok I got out of the car.

The guy was very apologetic when he got out of the car saying "ohh v0k ek is soo jammer my voet is van die clutch afgeslip" I got his details but he didn't have his drivers license on him. He suggested we don't go through insurance and he will reimburse me.

Anyway I decided to take no chances went to the SAPS and opened and AR and also reported it to my insurance who has since viewed my car. Tomorrow I will go to a family friend who is a panelbeater to get a quote so we can possibly resolve this without involving insurance, for me it won't be worth claiming from my insurance because my excess is quite high. I could claim from his insurance but lets hope he keeps his words and pays out of his pocket.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Here is a pic, I'm not so upset because its just a car and nobody got hurt but at the same time its quite annoying because of all the admin now.

My advice - do it through his insurance...he must pay. too much of issues if you try dodge insurance and since its his faultl let him sort the paperwork and all the jazz, out!

Your insurance needn't even hear about this. His insurance or pocket pays for this all the way.

LZ can correct me, but bent/stretched plastic usually means a new bumper. Don't hold back on this guy.

looks like im going to need to take this with a pinch of salt and pay for the damages myself ....

my insurance wont pay because the damages are below my excess and they have not been able to help me any further which I don't really accept.

Now for the guy/driver, I've managed to find out the following:

He got fired from his employee
His employer thinks he is taking drugs
He has been writing false checks and banks are looking for him
He has no drivers license
The car was not his and I cant get hold of the owner
I got hold of the owners son because the driver had written his details on a business card who happens to be the car owners son
The car owners son claims he doesnt really know the guy but he managed to give me the drivers wifes details
I called his wife who sounds like she is sad and possibly on some substance she told me she is sorry and that he is no longer part of her life
The driver wont answer his phone

I've had to exhaust many avenues to get this information, I think this weekend I'm just going to have my car repaired and then still try pursuit the owner of the car and see what I can get.

Any further advice ? I know it sounds like a movie script...

I hate getting shafted like this ...
