shock mountings broken on tyre change ramp

I had my car's wheelalighnment done on saturday, (was still in spec.)
While waiting i saw another e90 on a car ramp , new tyres fitted, and the front wheels had collapsed as it was hanging in the air, both top shock mounts have broken off, it must have been broken allready.

Needless to say, when i looked again the car was back on its wheels, and when i looked again , the car was gone, keeping in mind i was paying attention to the work being done to my own car.

I don't think the female driver realized the danger in driving a car in this condition, and i don't think the tyre shop should have allowed her to leave in that condition, i think a high- speed bumb could dislocate the front shocks with disasterous results.

Scary...

I doubt the tyre shop even saw it...they only concentrate on their own work..if they dont they screw things up..

jeez...I hope that wasn't at my shop in my absence

although its not unheard of, we regularly have clients (without $$$) come into the shop to have something done, and then we find another MAJOR problem, and point it out to them, but being cash-strapped, they ask us to just ignore it or "make-a-plan" to see them on their way.

its not like we are the cops or some regulatory authority to stop a client from driving away in a clearly nu-roadworthy vehicle
....all we can do is advise, and highlight the possible dangers.

Thats a scary situation. I am glad that some shops will inform the customer of impending failure, even if i dont have money to sort it out there and then, it gives me time to sort it out.

I have had the opposite though, went to do alignment and the guy tells me that 2 of my tyres are shot. He shows the tyres and says they are on the wear indicator and are wearing on the outside. Given it was the front tyres on a front wheel drive, the outer edges show a little more wear than the rears and it was about 3mm ABOVE the wear indicator. He suggested i at least replace the 2 tyres and optionally all 4 to keep them the same...,

That was over 18months ago, the tyres are still above the wear indicator and no signs of uneven wear. Thank god I didnt send the wife to do the alignment.
