discussion Servicing out of plan - M Cars

Hi guys hope all is well

My F80 just came out of 7-year motor plan, kilos are relatively low

Will need to change the rear brake pads in a few months

Where do M car owners service their cars after motor plan has expired

For a simple brake pad change would it be better to pay the premium at my local BMW dealer or look around for an experienced technician

Are there any reliable service centers or technicians around the Joburg area that can carry out the service properly

Any input will be appreciated

For brakes I would get OEM parts and use a recommended workshop like The 357, Ross Duncan to fit them etc. (Jhb members will chime in on a place)

I would still do oil services and other minor items with agents to maintain a service history with them.

Use as much OEM parts as possible, BMW has been the same or even cheaper than many other non-OEM stores and suppliers of late, even for tyres.
Fitment centres tend to also be personal choices but the places i trust my car with blindly because I have used them over decade and more and their service is consistent is XFlow Performance (Randburg), the357 (Kyalami), Xcede Performance (Linbro Park).
All these okes have and are in BMW brand througout and know about the entire range of BMW.

So im from JHB, Lonehill. I use a gent by the name of Kavi who runs AutoTechlight, great resource, and he is well priced.
he generally delivers, and i use a garage/workshop run by an Ex BMW Northcliff MasterTech.

As an example, BMW JSN quoted me R10 000 just for front brake pads on the M6, whereas Kavi quoted me R4500 for front and rear pads, and as i know you will ask, the brand is TRW, which is a Brand used by BMW actually for quite a few cars, and are great pads.
So even though i agree with Ash to get as much OEM parts as possible, there are a lot of parts that you can get outside of BMW that are generally OEM.
Another example, the Aux Water Pump for the Turbos/ECU's is R1450 at BMW JSN, but at Goldwagen, the pump is R1900, So BMW can be very fair on parts, depends where and what you buying. also always ask for discount, as there is always discount available.
