Just a general hoohaa.

Bought car in November 2007 with 62000 kays on odo and plan till 100000.

Crank pulley - R8000
water damaged Turbo (Garret) donation from (BigKriss on another forum) and re-condition was about R2000 for the turbo service kit.
Since servicing by Garage 808 the following done / replaced / serviced where I have tracked payments and quotes and so on is R14150 including service parts and labour plus replacement of boost hose from intercooler and radiator hose now in January 2014.
Did front discs and pads by AutoQuip and that was another R2200
Gearbox rebuild by Triangle in 2012 was about R18000
Xenon bulbs (OSRAM D2-S) from Diesel Electric also in 2012 I think was another R2000.
Tyres , about R20000 including nail damaged rear replacements so a pair of new ones for the back.
Removal of all cats bar one after rear wheels , R1000 for labour and parts.

Diesel , lots of randellas.

Car is now overdue for 192000 kay service , will get done on 03 June , job already paid for , another R2400
Total is R69350 adding up these amounts.

Not really tho I got the oem Meyle crank pulley for less than half of that. Apart from the crank pulley and the Gearbox the rest is actually normal maintenance  any e46 requires the cooling system change as it is a common weak point. but apart from the Above 2 issues everything else isnt really 330d specific. Big ups to you for maintaining the car

I disagree when you state diesel costs a lot to maintain...

Tyres aren't only on diesels. Nor gearboxes, nor xenon lights, nor brakes etc etc.

I can understand servicing a diesel may be more expensive than a petrol in some instances, yes, but then you reap the benefits of lower fuel consumption. At the end of the day, I think it balances out.

Remove the items that don't relate to a diesel only, and then redo the calculation, and see what you get.

Good job for maintaining the car like one should

Hi ChefDJ.

I am not complaining about the cost of maintenance re service items or diesel specific issue but merely trying to gauge looking after ones car as to how diligent members are.

After all if you leave something , eventually the bill becomes quite high , so the post is more to gauge just how pro-active the fanatics are when it comes to these sort of issues.

My last diesel (320d Sport Pack pre-facelift) fried an ECU with a rather horrendous bill to fix in 1 shot , needless to say I traded it in for this current one.

Diesel Fan is on his 4th auto box on 330d. Basically a box every 100k. Thats rather silly in my books. Building a reliable serviceable auto box isn't rocket science but BMW and their love of 'lifetime' fluid eh

3rd box 4th was recon to not have to wait. Also I'm not sure why the boxes were re conned each time. Ie I'm not sure what extent their failure was. It could have been the simple no reverse issue which is easily fixed and the gearbox specialists just jumping for a recon.

But besides that the gearboxs are not designed for the torque output of the engine and I read that the torque is limited in first and second gear.
