Service Options

Hi Members

As the Topic states I have some questions with regards to Service Options, I am sure this may have been covered before but I just can't find anything.

All my previous car's had been serviced by Agents (In and out of Plan)

My question is, does Servicing a car at a Non-Dealer company affect the Resale Value of the vehicle?

Now days you can have your car taken to a Dealer\Service center and pick the bellow options,

1. Have parts supplied at cost + staff discount and negotiate with a mechanic to pull your car into the work shop and have the service\part changed at a huge discounted rate that the dealer would generally charge, down fall to this is if someone had to call in and supple the Reg\Vin number the Service\Part change would not reflect even though you have the booked stamped and the recite for the parts only.

2. Book in your car at the dealer and pay a premium for labor and parts and have it logged on there system and the service book stamped.

3. Take your car to a well known service center and get them to fit parts you bough from a Dealer and charge you labor and stamp your service book and file and log that your car had been to them (When you sell and the buyer calls to confirm work done it can be referenced to exactly what was done).

4. Take your car to a well known service center and let them supply the parts and labor ETC. at a rate that should be significantly cheaper than the agents.

With Resale value in Mind mostly, which is the better option?

With out Resale in mind which would be the better option?

Please add to the list were you can also

honestly.. I do the servicing on my cars. I buy the parts, take a pic of the dashboard with a time and date stamp. print that and attach it to the invoice of the goodies I replaced. have my pops stamp the book with his old company stamp and right mileage in the book.

I tend to trust myself more than some of the service centres out there.

as for it changing what the trade value is.. as long as there is proof of service, the dealers still give you the same price, irrespective of which company serviced the car. This I have experience with because I serviced my wife's car after it went out of warranty. The only thing that the dealers asked is if does it has a service history. I showed it to them and they actually offered us more for trade-in as we would have gotten when we wanted to trade the car at its original dealership for the same brand of car.

Wish knew how to do stuff like this :sorry:

So this wont affect trade I agree but how does it affect a private sale were we aim for more than trade and some times even more than book value?

3 and 4 for me. Don't think it really makes a difference to resale so long as it was done by a reputable mech and you have a record of it with receipts.

Thanks

Option 1 is not working out to bad but will see what labor discount I can get and maybe go with Option 2 :fencelook:

I dont see why it should make a difference.

I have always serviced my car at non bmw dealerships after plan was over.
Even with trading in at BMW it did not affect the price at all.

As long as there is a proven service record and stamp in the books i am happy.

Never knew option 1 was an option... Personally I'd rather have someone I know and trust work on my car than take it to a dealer where you don't know who's working on your car and there could be like 10 different people working on it at any given time. But that's just me:fencelook:

I also recently started keeping a little black book in my cubby to note down all the work done on my car with dates and mileage and I attach receipts to it. My mech also has a record of all work done on his system. Can't possibly harm resale:idea:
