Whats the Mileage on your car? Is it an Automatic or manual ? If its an automatic I read on many forums and websites that if your car has high mileage , you should not replace the gearbox fluid as the new fluid can cause damage , Read that it will clean and dislodge particles and dirt which could go into other areas and damage parts . I stand to be corrected on this though! Maybe forum members who are more familiar with this can chime in . But if you are changing the oil , change the filter as well and all gaskets , washers etc. I was quoted over R3800 for gearbox oil from BMW for my E46 when I thought I needed it changed. Now im to afraid of changing it :hammerhead:

Regarding the Service indicator , im not sure , maybe you need to have it plugged in and reset that way? If that's possible ? I know on the E30 its the battery's that go . On E46 im not sure .

Thanks
Sorry Car has around 130k km at the moment and is a manual.
I shouldn't have to plug in any machine to reset it. I've seen on YouTube there is a method where you turn the key, press etc but mine is completely non responsive. Other sites talk about the pin not being aligned properly and the cluster needing removal and put back straight but I thought maybe someone here had the same issue.

The left button is the cluster is used to reset the trip meter to 0. You can't reset the service interval via any method on the car, it has to be done via the obd.

No. The one resets the trip and the other tunes the clock.

There is a method but it doesnt work on all cars.

You will need someone to reset it for you

I have seen youtube videos wereby you "bridge" out electrical contacts in the diagnostics plug located under the hood (on the E36), not sure if the E46 has a similar "cheat"
otherwise its a quick reset via a plug in diagnostics computor

- Press and hold trip meter button down and turn ignitiion key to accesory position.
- Hold until you see 'reset'.
- Release and immediately press and hold again for 5 seconds, until 'reset' flashes.
- Release and press again.
