I've been made an offer on the 320i... (that 330i may just be mine if all goes through)

What's the process when selling your vehicle privately.

Any/all tips appreciated

dont take hard cash. Either go to the bank to with buyer to deposit or do a secure EFT..same bank so it immediately reflects.

Hard cash can end bad, you may get robbed by sellers friend waiting around the corner or get thousands of rands of fake bills...i can tell you all about the latter(sold rims for R6K on the gum, only about R1000 was real money - reported the issue but i had no details for the seller:thumbdo:)

1) Confirm money is in your account :)
2) Get a roadworthy certificate
3) Transfer vehicle ownership onto new owners name

That is all I can suggest, don't & I repeat DON'T leave it up to the new owner to do COR & transfer of ownership even if its a family member....

Definitely make sure the fund are in your account and have cleared before handing over the car.

Get a Blue form and a Yellow form from the traffic department. You need to have him complete the yellow one which you hand in once he has taken possession of the car.

The blue form he needs in order to register the car in his name, like Doomsdaya says maybe do this with him at the same time, you dont have to though, but its better. He will also need the cars registration papers and a letter of sale, with both your names and both your ID numbers on it.

+1

Once you hand in the yellow form, the car should be off your name immediately, even if he takes 1 year to hand in the the other form.

NB: I could be wrong, but some traffic depts might need proof of sale to hand in the yellow form.

1) As soon as buyer agrees to price sign an OTP. Get a coly of their id and use those detail of the OTP. Put all your t&c on the OTP.

2) only accept eft or direct deposit. No cheques or cash. Best to go to the bank, once eft done, confirm with bank.

3) once you happy you got cash do the change of ownership, licence and reg. Don't let them do it. You also have to do COR to register car so you cam do that now. Go to any Aa dekra, costs R340.

4) once you have reg papers showing buyer is owner and title owner hand everything over to the new owner. They must sign an acknowledgment form stating they revived the vehicle etc.

5) make sure they give you a very clear copy of their Id as the licensing dept is very sticky on this.

6) if the car is in mp then motorplan needs to be transferred as well. Can e done by you or the new person depending on the agreement.

PM if you need the OTP and delivery templates.
