Nothing scientific about this. Just a fun video.
Been noticing that the exhaust titanium tail pipes stick out alot more when the car has been driven but when cold it sits nicely tucked away in the diffuser.
The logic is simple and obvious though but I decided to capture a close up of this "expanding exhaust" on film just for the fun of it.
In this video you can clearly see how the exhaust grows outwards. The metal clicking sound at the start of the video is the exhaust valve opening...that reduces or opens up sound depending on whether the valve is close or open.
Three clips: normal start up; an accelerated video frame side view; an accelerated view from the top of the exhaust.
TIP:
Stainless steel exhaust gets hotter quicker than mild steel and also expands noticeably when hot. Once warm the metal expands and the joints tighten then everything quietens down. The expansion of the metal also means that an exhaust that sits straight and neat when cold does not continue to do so after been driven!
