Second giant recall for BMW

my dads X5 3.5d died on the side of the road earlier last week.

The bolt that holds the tensioner down actually snapped, causing belts to go flying.

Turns out that BMW did actually issue a recall on this as well..

following my resent bad luck with my vehicle (http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=40865), I just had to phone this morning to check if mine was one of the infamous bunch.... and you guessed it... It's booked in for Friday. Apparently no physical fixes though, mine only needs some programming of sorts? A bit concerned though, because it needs to be there for the whole day as, and I quote "sometimes things go wrong".... :argh:

phoned bmw yesterday,they claim they dont know which cars are affected and waiting for the vin numbers from head office before they can contact clients

I called as well after reading this thread on Tuesday, they called back yesterday saying my Dec 2010 model isn't affected :dunno:

My car went in today... To Alberante BMW... For the recall iro the software/electrics. Despite a near crises when they were hit by a MAJOR power out (the entire alberton eastern suburbs) they pulled it through. A big thumbs up to Paulo Rosa for his persistence in getting the job done... And the service department in general for keeping me informed.
