Seat Belt Broke (Fixed)

Hello fellow fanatics, for once I felt unsafe while driving today back from tech :nonono:

As with what the title suggests, my seat belt broke. The connecting point pictured below seems to be missing the clip that broke off (laying there on the handbrake).

What happens: I try pushing the seat belt into the connector but it wont budge. Sometimes I just press down the red tab and it works but today something broke or is missing, so I'm suspecting its that clip (pictured on the handbrake).

Requesting some help from E34-owners whom have experience with this....

It's bolted to the seat, IIRC. Dunno if yours is the same, but on mine there's a pretensioner thingie that makes me rather nervous.

just checked the 540 and cannot see where it goes , seems like the covers are tight , did not want to break something . Good luck .

Replaced mine, cost me about R400 if memory serves.

Seat out, mechanism changed...

Yes. Two botls at the back. Clips on the front that hooks in place.

The 540 has a Torx head bolt on each slide rail behind the seat . I must take my seats out to attend to the seat backs twisting. I fixed the head rests already , finncky with the electric motors .

You might need extra hands. So far I've been unable to remove the seats completely on my own. I've always needed help. You need to remove the 2 bolts holding the seat in place, then have someone lift the back of the seat while you try and move it out if the clips at the front.

The last I remove them was to fixed the twisting backs. Rick540 helped me with one so I can see how and I did the rest at home with my brother helping to remove the seats. :thumb:

Luckily my seat back aint twisted yet (touch wood) however the lumbar support thingy is broken. (well in my one you can adjust your lower back support). Will probably have to check it out.

Max, the seat twist only happens on electric seats! What size torx is it? 12? Rick helped me with mine, but Murphey's law I have another twist on the passenger seat height adjustment, but have left it as the seat never really has to go up or down.

Greg, mine are electric seats :rollsmile: unless you guys are talking about some other electric seat :mmm: Oh, I think my ones just older so maybe some revisions were made on yours.

OK, I just went and had a look at whats what. It seems on my one, the whole seat belt thing is just bolted onto the seat frame with a 17mm nut. (Murphy's Law - dont have a 17mm socket :nonono I cant use a wrench because it's just too damn chunky and won't fit in there. Also I'm not sure if that nut is a normal or reverse threaded nut.

Here is the top part (my camera was being stubborn)

And then it just anchored onto the seat frame with this 17mm nut.

OK. Just took it out, now....to solve the missing piece of the puzzle....

If not, let's hope the passenger side is interchangeable.
