So.... its been ages since I posted an updated on the continual pimping of ze Touring.

Reason being that the car has been off the road.

Originally the SLS (Self Leveling Suspension) started giving trouble so we had to get custom shocks made up. Then the air-bags committed suicide leaving the car dragging its rear and bottoming out on the smallest bump...

So we removed the springs and fitted H&R Springs to it, but now the shocks are completely wrong! :tease:

So the car still bottoms out, so a second set of custom shocks were ordered to correct this, I must say that driving the car like this was very nerve wracking!

And here we are to today, car on the lift, shocks out waiting for Schmiedmann Shock mounts to arrive for the new shocks.

Car on the lift:

Some rust issues we found which need sorting in the next few weeks:

Old Shocks on right vs new shocks on left, seeing the problem?

We also decided it was time for the Wood to go missing and be sprayed in Piano Black:

And finally, while the car is off the road a little bit more we are going to have the wheels refurbished with dark graphite inners and a polished lip.

The car is also booked on Wednesday to have the miles to km conversion done on the electronics (not sure if it will work).

Cant wait to see it done! :joy:

the old dampers look like the sedan ones... looks like at some stage someone put in the wrong dampers... the touring dampers do not have spring seats on and are shorter...

They apparently are modified dampers, custom I recall... You can feel the difference between the old and new shocks, the old shocks are so soft and rebound quickly whereas the new shocks (also custom) have less travel and slower rebound and take more effort to compress.

To be honest... its already lowered quite a bit with the wrong shocks in the rear.... For a Touring it has epic stance, the front setup is perfect, just the rear that needs love.

This is the current stance with the wrong shocks in the rear:

Sexy as hell! :joy:

maybe if it was in the snow...with bald tires...and oil on the snow...it could get it to break traction once:fencelook:

Snow, oil, bald tyres and bad luck with lots of handbrake jerking might give you a bit of a wobbly at the rear, but no... Its a cruiser, loves sitting at 120 and just soaks up the miles.

Alright, so we spent the afternoon messing with the Touring and damn this car is really growing on me, thinking of getting one of these instead of a Caddy.

To begin with some new Top Mounts arrived from Schmiedmann, Germany.

Aaaannnddd, done.

So, boot back together, car ready to roll we grab the old Antera's from our 635CSI project... They dont fit. So we grab the old E38 wheels. Not a chance. Grab the E46 M3 wheels (okay so we were desperate) and they fit but poorly...

Will have to wait for the BBS's to return, last feedback on those was that they were being sprayed and polished today. :inlove:
