I wonder where this was going and how was it being towed with its back wheels on the ground.

They may have disconnected the side shafts. You don't know...

I was told by a tow truck operator that you can't tow a rear wheel drive safely like this so I was always under the impression that one should never tow a rear wheel drive car like that, was told it has to go on a flatbed. In neutral does it compleatly disengage the gearbox from the propshaft and diff ?

No potential for damage to the diff and propshaft?

If it's in neutral what's the issue?

Had the same thought

The bigger question is: HOW ARE ALL THESE CARS MANAGING TO STICK TO THE SIDE OF THIS SHEER CLIFF? AMAZING TYRES? VOODOO? GUPTA INTERFERENCE?

Well think of it this way, what's the difference between towing a manual RWD car that's in neutral, and coasting downhill in neutral when driving normally? Automatics are a different story, as are cars that have a damaged gearbox/prop/diff. It's just a safer call for a RWD to go on a flatbed, so the tow-truck driver doesn't get there with the wrong vehicle, but depending on the issue it isn't necessary.

Thanks guys! Very informative! :=): you learn something new on this forum everyday! Really appreciate it!

umm , VukMiler , im a little confused , I have no Idea what your talking about :skit:

Its a very wide road , very much flat no cliffs around , its a concrete road , a 4 lane highway , on both sides, running alongside Southway mall in Durban , that center divider is on top of a paved pavement ( I think its there to prevent pedestrians from running across the highway) Lots of cars and trucks on this road at half 4 .
