Saving an e70 ..with some questions

Small update...
My f30 paintwork are finished and I have to go and collect it this weekend. ..The X will then be dropped off for its paintwork as well. :smilebounce:
But a week ago I was doing the following on her..
img-20190906-wa0027_1984212674.jpeg

All of this work was unnecessary. ...:rage:
Here's the story. .
I took the X out for a drive just to came back with a car full off oil drops on the tailgate.
When I bought her I was very chuffed with the engine being bone dry, and with the exception of the engine drain plug that was slightly oily there was no oil leaks on the engine or gearbox.
Knowing very well the oil leak reputation the n63 was known for, I feared the worst.
So I pulled her on the lift and was greeted with an undercarriage that was literally dripping with oil:blueCry:
Took of all the covers to pin point the oil leak...
The oil had a unfamiliar odour to it and at first I thought it was gearbox oil...It wasn't.
It looked like the oil was leaking out between the engine and gearbox. .It wasn't but I didn't knew it at that stage:eek:mgwaiting:
I ignored the fact that the torque converter was bone dry as well if I had a look with a flash light at it. .when I pushed my fingers into the inspection hole it came out wet with oil.
So obviously it had to be rear main brg/crank oil seal. It wasn't. ..
But the N63 had another well documented flaw..
With both turbos being mounted in the V of the engine It creates a LOT of heat after the engine has been switched of. If it have a weak battery or a faulty electric turbo cooling pump it creates all of the problems the N63 is so well known for.
Cooked valve stem seals..blocked turbo oil return lines...Top cover gaskets starting to leak, turbo cooling lines and pipes going bad and start to leak and also the turbo oil return housing will start to leak oil into the V of the engine.
That oil will then start to leak out of the back of the engine and runs down inside of the bell housing, making it look like a rear main brg oil leak.
So I stripped off everything to get to the oil return housing inside the v of the engine. It's a lot of work to get to it but not difficult at all.
So after I stripped off everything and exposed the "hot V' I was greeted with a very dirty block ...but unfortunately it looked like old dirt an grime and I had a sneaky suspicion that I had done all of this work for nothing:thumbdo:
So I cleaned everything. ..replaced gaskets , orings and seals where necessary and reassembled everything.

Looked much better after a good clean.

Reassembled everything and was greeted with a dash full of warning lights.
Turns out that i managed to crack one of the vacuum lines going to the ccv valve.
They become very brittle from the heat .
A small vacuum leak and the engine will go crazy. ..misfiring very badly on more than one cylinders.
Replacement pipe about R650
Then also somehow I had to damage one of the upstream oxygen sensors because I also have a fault on that ....and this one cost R5900:skit:
So now I have done a whole lot of work and still hadn't found the massive oil leak.:hammerhead:
Pulled the X back onto the lift to see what work needs to be done to remove the gearbox. .Since I wasn't convinced that the oil leak came from the turbos it had to be rear main brg right..Wrong.
While I was poking around ...I pushed my finger into a funny bladder looking thing..and low and behold a lot of oil came gushing over my hand and arm!
The right hand side engine mountings bladder was torned and that's where all the oil came from:rage:
I never even knew that thy did had oil in them:dunnoanymore:
So I will take her on a car trailer to my buddies auto paint shop and while he is busy I will try and source an oxygen sensor. .
So we learn.

Struggling to post more photos.
Will do as soon as I get it right
Here's a link to show what work is involved in this.

Here you can see the turbo oil return housing. .

Well i picked up some of the last needed parts from Deago the day before yesterday

X5 is currently stripped and ready to be painted at the panelbeaters in Marble Hall.
So hopefully i will be able to reassemble it next week...
And then it only needs an oxygen sensor .
Almost there :smilebounce:

So after the fiasco I had with the right hand side engine mounting leaking oil, I never came around replacing it.
To be honest I really didn't look forward to doing it..
Well since I bought her it always sounded like she had a flat battery...it turned out to be a sick starter motor.
And to get the starter out you need to remove the engine mounting and its bracket.
Now to put it straight..that's an extremely k#k job.very difficult with very very little space.
Of course you don't get a service kit on this starter and a new one is close to 12k from the agent's.
Luckily this one only had broken brushes and I managed to source some brushes that fit like a charm.
So I replaced the engine mounting while I had it out as well.
Yesterday in town I had the following....

So this morning I removed the handbrake actuator.
Opened it up and found that the one terminal have broken of on the actuator motor.
So out came the soldering iron and soldered a new terminal on.

Reassembled everything and glad to report all is good :smilebounce:
