Hoping not to have to buy from the SABS, but seems I am gonna have to.

Having an argument with an inspector at a testing station about a mod. He says he is quite entitled not to issue a roadworthy cert and the decision is his alone.

Is there any "friendly" testing stations around? Or someone who can issue a roadworthy certificate on a mod? :mmm:

This opens the can of worms a bit further. Did the first officer want a bribe or was he doing his duty to the letter, which makes the second testing station sub-standard?

SANS 10047:2007 item 5.39.2.1: "If any engine is fitted that is not of standard make and type for that particuler vehicle, reject if, in the opinion of the examiner, the engine is excessively powerful for the vehicle in question."

Did some surfing and came up with this. Kinda makes you think twice about the mods on a car. Especially engine swops, which this sub-rule seems to target.

Really don't thinks its fair that it leaves the decision up to the examiner. That opens the door for corruption, especially given the investment made in the vehicle.

The vehicle may be "Road Worthy", but they can still refuse to grant you a roadworthy certificate :cursin:

That is EXACTLY why they have to test the brakes and suspention to see if they can indeed handle the convertion.
It was his job to do it properly, but he opted to go the easy way out, and tell you "No!"
What did the other testing station have to say??
Did they also bitch and moan, or did they test the car properly, and found it all in order??
