but parking off at a garage like we do gives the guys time to chat and check out each others bm's,as well as have a ice cream or cool drink.

there after every body is welcome to do what ever they wanted, either a run as a club or go home.

what pisses me off is that you are getting cops in unmarked cars that are entrapping streer racers into races, and please dont come and say you havent given it a go every now and then from a robot,i have read the tlgp stories.

surely these cops could be doing something better with tax payers money, like actually catching taxis and trucks that area danger to our roads.

on the last run,i saw them trapping at 02h30 in the morning, now how many speeding fines are you gonna get at that time of the day.rather catch drunk drivers at that time as i think they would get more,as well as making the roads safer

but this is my oppion

man I can't believe how many people are pissed about the cop's that is actually doing their jobs...:fencelook:

With that said, I agree with herr that they shouldn't provoke or entrap other people to race, that's just low, but from my point of view, breaking the law is breaking the law. Yes we can complain about taxi's and all that stuff, but seriously who is gonna ride a taxi around that time?

I'm just saying, street racers are just giving the cop's even more reason to stop guys with a fast/nice car...

What did the police chief say, or was it someone else;when they delivered some bimmers to the cops; "BMW is not a luxury sedan, it is a high performance sedan :) " (I think it's both)

i dont think it's so much about being upset with the cops for doing their job, but rather how they go about it. i mean if you want to catch me racing, fine, catch me racing, dont harrass me when i am standing next to my car taking kak. there is a bit too much god complex some of our SAPS staff suffer from, and I personally have experienced this first hand, being harrased for no good reason after an afternoon of shopping at the mall with the missus, but thats another story. point is that a good chunk of the police staff (not all of course) are not very sophisticated and the tactics resemble the intimidation of the mafia of the early 20's. basically a bunch of thugs just with badges.

i still think there is a fine line here though, you can be standing around your car with the intention of racing. or you can be there just for ice cream. both look pretty much the same, and lets face it when there is a group of petrol heads together there is a good chance someone will go over 120.. so i dont blame the cops for not being able to tell the differnce, or not wanting to.

but then knowing what the possible outcome can be why do it? either way its wiser not to attract attention and go about your business out of the spotlight. you know they can be idiots, so take some measures which will reduce your chance of being picked on, not so?

You all make valid points.
I myself have been harassed while at Casbah roadhouse, by a saps van, stopping and telling me I am one of the racers, and this while I was drinking milkshake with mommy and the girls... :nonono:

I straight up told him to F-off because he was harassing me. He threatened to arrest me and I told him to try, because I have a whole roadhouse to support me to the fact he was the one starting the shit, so he left...

A while ago I posted about how I was on route to buy food, when I was shout at over the PA system as to stop racing, this while I was doing 70 in a 60 zone. When I drove off, I was told to pull over, and approached with guns drawn, told to get out, and when they found out I am actually a metro cop, they changed their tune, and let me go...

I feel the same about the harassment, and have even taken on the cops on the first run about it. I also don't agree with being "enticed" to race, and then getting arrested, but like it was well pointed out, put a bunch of guys together with nice, fast cars and most likely there will be some "spiritted" driving.

The fact is there were people arrested that night, and they were racing, but how the innocent were treated, I agree, was wrong!!

...anyway, when is the SPUR thing happening??

I think the 9 that were illegally arrested, should stand together and bring a lawsuit against the policeman in question, that aught to teach them not to f@ck with the innocent public. (These f@ckfaces all think they are above the law).

And to the guys that say they are only doing their job, I say BS. They only go for the easy targets.

Has anyone noticed how fat the police are getting these days, and not just fat, flippen obese. If they had to chase a criminal, they would probably get a heart attack within the first 5 minutes.

Just another thought, on what charges do you arrest a racer that is parked at a garage (Loitering) I would say that even the racers have a strong case for harassment against the police. (Anybody know when this incident happened ?) .

Really BS? ok maybe you should be a cop and go do what they suppose to do then.

They point is they were going to race anyways, stop making excuses like they were just there talking kak blah blah blah... if they wanna to talk kak, they might as well do it on the internet or the forum.

Stop defending these hooligans that's given everyone a bad name:thumbdo:

I race, I've been caught, I've harrased etc.

Bottom line, If you at a known racing venue with your modified car and you get nailed, DONT CRY !

Dont give me the k@K that you free to talk k@K or have ice cream where ever you want to.

Street Racing is illegal. Full Stop ! If you there, you either supporting or racing, either way you still wrong. Cops come in and do their jobs. You dont like the way you get treated, dont support or race illegally.

Like I said, I race, I was caught, I still race. WHEN and not IF I get caught again, I'm not gonna cry and moan about it. I will accept as I will be breaking the law.

do you happen to know what charges were laid against them?

apparently no charges, but were held for quite a while,at this stage i think its just scare tatics, but next will come proper arrests with charges

One of my Budies from work was one of the arrested....R500 bail... Went to court for wreakless and neglegant driving, as well as taking part in illegal activities.. No charges were made due to insufficient evidence of racing.

So what you are saying is, that if your wife dresses like a hooker and is seen in a public place, she should be arrested for possible solicitation ?

Precisely what I said, the police were wasting tax money, f@cking around, instead of catching real criminals. My point is, catch them in the act and you have a leg to stand on, otherwise you are wasting time on cr@p.

If I was one of the arrested, I would be taking the police to the cleaners right now, in their official and private capacity.

@tcal69 I am not defending, but the police should do their job properly, and stop harassing innocent people, they think like woman, you drive a nice car that looks like it can go fast and automatically the assumption is made that you are a racer.

A while ago I posted about how I was on route to buy food, when I was shout at over the PA system as to stop racing, this while I was doing 70 in a 60 zone. When I drove off, I was told to pull over, and approached with guns drawn, told to get out, and when they found out I am actually a metro cop, they changed their tune, and let me go... facepalm

The other night on the news it was said that 60% of police out there have no idea how to handle a firearm properly, so now you have these idiots with guns drawn, walking around your car, and there is a risk of an accidental discharge. (They are frigging idiots. I have a lot of friends that have left the police and gone into private security work, as they just could no longer work with these idiots any more.

aggree ileagal racing should be stopped,no doubt about it,but stop picking on a bunch of innocent people, like the woman that just stopped to get bread and milk.

in fact a guy that works with us stays down the road from there and stays away from that garage on samrand avenue due to the idiots racing there,he has wittnessed drinking and cars nearly losing it there.

but a group of guys eating ice cream, march's run,the tatical team were there, and all they did was sit on the side lines, after about an hour they left,no harresment, and from there we left and had a bit of fun.

if the cops really want to stop reckless drivers, then why dont they hang out side the local drinking spots and catch the guys that are over the limit, and arrest them,im sure the roads would be alot safer then

Bottom line, its illegal. There have been many cases where innocent peiple have been killed due to illegal drag racing.

So when the cops try and stop it, they wasting time ! WTF ?

Its usually meets like the one at samrand where okes get drunk and drive like morons that causes the problems.

So, in my my opinion as a racer, u get get caught at these hookups, racing or not, u deserve the hassles u get.

I have been caught at private hookups and the cops dont give as much hassles cause there are no morons acting stupid.

well thats the thing,at the ic cream events we all act like good well behaved citizens, unfortunatlly at the last one it was on the same night as the illeagal events 200m down the road.

lets be honest if you see a e90 like touring gp,then you automatically the cops see street racer, even when the car is just standing there.

I get ur point dude. These huge illegal hookups fark it up for everyone.

The best thing us to stay away. Organise hookups on a different day and not at known hotspots.

I have put alot of work, time and money to make my Cupra more "fun". I enjoy the thrill if street racing. I do however stay away from the massive illegal hookups. We organise private runs on odd days with a few cars. We dint get hassles even when the cops do come. At the worst they ask us to leave. We have even had them stay to watch.

All im saying is that hookups like the samrand one cause problems for everyone. 100s of people watching, drinking and acting stupid while 2 cars go at it all night.

The cops come see a huge crowd and react.
