S50B32 fuel pump

Howsit guys.

So a few weeks ago while driving my e36 m3 the car died on me. Pulled over on the side of the road and tried starting it again but no luck. The car would start but not hold idle (car had 3/4 tank fuel).
I got the car towed home that night. Only to find out that the fuel pump fuse blew.
Changed the fuse and all is well now.

I've been told that the fuel pump is on its way out. Not sure how true is this.

Anyways sealers want R10000 for a pump. What are my other options?

PJ, I don't understand why the fuel pump will be on its way out as a result of the fuse blowing.....what's the reasoning behind that? I've previously read that when it's necessary to change the fuel pump on the E36 M3 a viable option to look at is a Walbro pump. Maybe compare prices between Stealers, Diesel-Electric and suppliers of the Walbro pumps.

There is a guy in Durbs that can supply a walbo 255 for R1300.

As for the pump on its way what. It is what I've been told. They pump drew too much current therefore the fuse popped.

Check the pressure rating of the OEM pump against the Walbro 255 to make sure it's up to the demands of your car. Let me know what you find out.

Well why would a fuel pump draw too much current? When last did you replace the fuel filter? Checked the fuel pressure at the rail? Or after the fuel pump? Could be a blockage.

Filter was change about 80 000kms ago.

The filter is a bmw long life unit

I am with Major. It's possible that a clogged fuel filter would make the pump work harder. I would say check the production date on the fuel filter - I have service records stating mine was changed twice but it was the original unit the car was built with!

It is also possible that the pump is just on its way out.

How long can you keep the filter on the car?

Secondly, it would be good practice to change it now...
