Runflat repair required

One of the rear tyres on my X5 is losing a bit of pressure. I've inspected it and it looks like the tyre was plugged from the outside and the plug is coming off. It is in the centre thread area, so it looks like a safe place to have it "replugged"

However, I want to have a proper mushroom plug fitted from the inside. I.e. the runflat tyre needs to be removed completely from the rim and the plug fitted from the inside. I also want this done, to check that there is no other damage to the tyre, as I will replace if required.

Any advise on where I can take it tomorrow in the Fourways/Bryanston area. There is a Minty's in Randburg but I'm not sure if they can do it??? Will phone them in the morning, as I've only discovered it now.

Any other recommended places that won't give me the usual "can't repair runflat B$".

Well, I am pro RFT's and feel that there is absolutely no problem with plugging a puncture provided of course the tyre was not driven on in a deflated state. But anyway, the fact that it is also in the centre of the tread is also better - on or near the shoulder is where it becomes more of a risk.

My only advise is to be super cautious about who takes the tyre off and refits it - so easy to end up with a scratched or chipped rim due to their carelessness. So watch them like a hawk and have the manager of the fitment centre inspect the wheel before that get to work, so that they can't try and pull the, "it was like that when you brought it in sir..." nonsense!

I used to be very anti-runflat. Might still get rid of them on my E90, but on the X5 will keep them as my wife uses the car during the week and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also the X5 rides fairly nicely even with the RFT's - the E90 is a different story :thumbdo:

Yep, for the safety aspect it makes the best sense - rather replace a trashed RFT than having your other half stuck on the side of the road which is freaking dangerous nowadays!!!

Ah, your E90 is a sportpack with 18's - RFT's can only be a pain I would think. Car will feel a lot better with non-RFT's - stick a space-saver in the boot and you are set!!!
