Well atleast you now know that there are cheaper options, I will never pay R20K+ for a set of tyres- that is just madness. But you also get what you pay for... there are RFT's out there for about R1800 per tyre in the 18" sizes... but stay away:nono:, I think if you stick to the well known makes you cant really go wrong...

PS. Just looking at your car in white brings tears to my eyes, white suites them so well! I went for the Le Mans Blue- what a nightmare!

I check in 2008 when I bought my 323i. I was told by the Dealer that I could not change away from the run flats. That car had 16". It was the exclusive pack

The current 320d Dynamic is gonna make me cry when I have to change tyres

Well, just came back from TwT- I replaced all four Michelins in these sizes with Yokohama V103 ADVAN SPORT RFT's. The rears had about another 3-5000km left on them... I visited the dealership before I went to TwT and they confirmed that I could replace the tyres with another brand of the tyre as long as it is within specification. The star on the sidewall is not a requirement. They did however say that all four of them should be of the same brand and type...

Total cost with alignment, nitrogen, balance and insurance was R13,600

TwT quoted on the same Michelin replacements and that would have been about R22,500!!!

I must admit that I do think the Yoki's have less road noise, it will be interesting to see if tramlining is also reduced.

Okay, that's interesting that they say that it doesn't matter as long as the tyre spec is correct and the same front and rear. Now I am even more happy that I went for the gamble to go for the Hankooks! Paid about R2800 for the two up front at the beginning of the year - probably have gone up in price a bit since then, but let's say plus minus R6k for four 17" size RFTs, not bad as far as I am concerned. Was considering ditching the RFTs and would have paid more or less the same for non-RFTs!

I hope that the Advans work well and remain quiet - that was one of the things that I read was often a problem with the Yoki Advan RFTs. But for what it's worth my father in law has a pair of them (non-RFT though) on the rear of his E46 which has E90 type 18" narrow/wides and he has been very happy with them. Not sure how much mileage he has done and what the wear rate is, but he's had them on the car for a few years now! If they haven't already, but I hope that they sell the Hankook RFTs in the larger sizes, 18" etc.

How much more or less would a set of 4 relatively decent tires in the 225 size (16's or 17's cost ? Because I can't afford to shell out R12k on 4 RFT's at the moment.

Not sure of their prices now, but Hankook RFT or non-RFT for 225/45/17 were selling for around R1450 each at TWT not too long ago - the Continental Contact Sport 2 RFT was around R1999 or so... I was quoted roughly R9000 in total for Bridgestone Potenza RFTs not too long ago too.

This is why I have been openly punting Hankooks - RFTs are here to stay but I can't see why they have to be so much more expensive than non-RFTs. Now I don't know if it was just a marketing stunt, but like I have said before, the Hankook RFTs that I fitted at the beginning of the year were literally R50 more per tyre than their popular non-RFT equivalent - so I thought I would take a gamble and try them out, and so far I really cannot find anything to complain about. Unfortunately at the time I was told that they weren't selling these RFTs in the larger 18" or even 19" sizes because, something along the lines, "BMW doesn't want them to sell these tyres" - not sure if this is true or just a salesman talking nonsense, but I got the impression that it's also, or more a case of, the more interest in the tyre the more likely they will find a way around this problem... But then one wonders if they won't also fall into the trap of being greedy and inflating the prices to match the bigger brands which are crazy in price!

Are the Hankook runflats much better than the Continentals ? I've got the standard 16's, 205 Conti's on my 320i and I find that road noise is relatively high at speed. Even at lower speeds, I can hear the road...and I think the run flats are to blame. Now I don't know if the Continentals are particularly bad run flats, but if the Hankooks are much better for noise and aren't much more than conventional tires then perhaps I should just get those rather than investing in a mobility kit which will take much 99.8% of my boot space (the other .2% is the sub cabinet).

guys,who ever wants to go non run flats ,ive got a set of good year f1 (+/- 75% thread) 225/45/17''.
want R5000-00 neg for them plus original gti rims,you can sell the rims after you take off the tyres.
pm if any body is interested
