RS7 vs M6 GranCoupe

Just checked caranddriver.com and a 0-60mph Audi RS7 posted a 3.4 and BMW M6 GC posted 3.5.
Audi is quicker and its definitely aided by AWD and no wonder BMW is offering AWD in next gen M5 and M6.

Audis have been quicker in the last 5 yrs they just haven't been better until now. My gut feel is BMW is behind now due to the i-range taking up R&D money but they are ahead in CFRP.

Yeah I get the feeling that BMW are just creating cars to plug gaps rather than set the bar or smash them completely............like surely the M6 GC should have some extra oomph as its a bit bigger than the normal M6. Also being the flagship M model it should really obliterate the competition instead of taking a beat down from an Audi....

Well done to Audi. It also won the shootout done by car and driver magazine with the cls amg awd and the M6 GC .

What I do find strange though is the margin by which the Audi won in the South African car test. It's too big!
Have a look at the test results in car and driver . 0-60mph and quarter mile differences are 0.1s .

The first column is the Audi , 2nd the bmw and third the merc

That difference looked a lot more in the South African test.

Still, Audi deserves the win!!

Hey guys

The same thing happened when the RS4 was launched in 2006 and I proved the theory wrong with my e46 against a bloke in Boksburg.

Audi are jz king off the line but they also have that extra weight to cart around. They are building good cars at the moment.

But for heaven sake CAR put a better driver in the M6GC cos that's jz crazy the margin in that clip.

there is no doubt in my mind that the m6 gc will hand the rs7 a hiding on a rolling run. the audi is heavier and will not put the power down as well as the m6 gc due to quattro.

do u want a car that blitzes everyone from the line, or one that gives you a better driving experience and blitzes everyone in real world driving.

i know what i would choose.

Car and Driver test results:
RS7 M6GC CLSAMG-S
0–30 MPH 1.4 sec 1.4 sec 1.3 sec
0–60 MPH 3.4 sec 3.5 sec 3.2 sec
0–100 MPH 7.8 sec 7.9 sec 7.7 sec
0–130 MPH 13.1 sec 13.0 sec 13.5 sec
¼-MILE @ MPH 11.6 sec @ 123 11.7 sec @ 124 11.6 sec @ 122
ROLLING START, 5–60 MPH 4.4 sec 4.0 sec 4.1 sec
610-FT-SLALOM 41.7 mph 44.1 mph 42.1 mph

Such a big difference in results?? did the guy in the M6 in the SA Car Mag test know where the gas pedal was?

Thanks CocoPops; BMW is the better car overall, as expected. My question after watching that video is WTF in their right mind would buy that Audi boat? It's one of the ugliest Audi's I've ever seen if not the ugliest :yuck:

Rolling and anything past 400m, RS7 doesn't stand a chance

How many races these days occur on distances longer than 400m?

Robot to robot 4WD these days with the electronics doing all the work will always be king.

The key to lookout for here is where the BMW fell short, the section cut out from your screengrab is the important part:

BMW wins on all performance aspects, powertrain etc etc..

It falls slightly short over the rs7 in terms of interior ergonomics etc (which I find highly subjective), other areas are trunk space and leg room, which you would expect the Audi to win due to its hatchback rear door opening style.

For me and this is personal, the M6 interior is far better than the rs7, it just feels special.

I have to disagree, the amount of times you have runs with guys on the highways and open roads vs robot to robot is far more in favour to open road runs than robot to robot races.

Also please keep in mind the type of person buying these vehicles, they are probably not going to be launching the car off the line, but utilising the speed in gear and rolling.

These are not hot hatches with the owners pitching up at the local drags (perhaps their kids)..

RS7 vs M6 GC vs CLS 63 AMG S Car & Driver Review

See above review....it must be pointed out that in this lot the RS7, has a conventional torque converter gearbox, were as the M6 is using a dual clutch M-DCT box with a launch control program, one would expect any car fitted with a dual clutch transmission with launch control to be quicker off the line than an equivalent torque converter transmission equipped vehicle. Also the RS7 does not have any form of launch control were as the other two have, so basically the traction the car gets is all due to its Quattro AWD system.

Have a look at the final scoring of the review as well.........

Big up to Audi its a great car all round. The looks not really my cup of tea. But any self proclaimed petrolhead has to give it respect.

Personally I'd prefer the M6 gc and thats based on the look of it. Faster or slower... really don't care. Just look at it.

Thank you! Glad I'm not the only one who sees an ugly Audi vs a beautiful BMW. Now if the Audi looked better that would be another story.
