Rough Idle and excessive diesel smoking

Hi, I have just bought a 2003 e46 320D. It has 182000kms with full service history. when I start the car, a puff of smoke comes out then for about 30 seconds, there is no smoke. Thereafter, its smokes a lot and it smells like diesel. The car also have a very rough idle when it is in park or when I stop at a stop street etc. It goes fine once in drive. I read a few opinions and a fault that people have indicated was that the Fuel rail Pressure Sensor is the problem and might need changing. Will this solve the excessive smoking /burning of diesel and the rough idling?

I would suggest you take your car to a mechie to check, to diagnose over a forum is very difficult....:coolShake:

I had the same experience on my 2006 320d. After much testing and replacing sensors, it was noted that 1 x fuel injector was going. I used liqui molly diesel additive for a short while then had to replace injector
