Intend to do a quick road trip from Cape Town to Mosselbay via Worcester, Ashton and Swellendam in the near future. Anybody know of roadworks or other crud on this route? Many thanks.

Why do you want to go the inland route? Its a horrible narrow road. N2 is far quicker. And for the post part better scenery... besides the 1 or 2 mountain passed you go through.

I don't travel on that road so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

If you want to go inland, Take the R62, Worcester, Robertson, Montagu, Barrydale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, take the R328 to Hartenbos and you're there.... Did this route in reverse in Feb, it is a little longer, but I found the scenery to be STUNNING! I for one enjoyed it, the road is quiet and when I did it, no road works

I've subsequently spoken to a neighbour who goes to Mosselbay fairly often. He travels the same route I intend to take. Apparently the only roadworks were close to Mosselbay, but that's been cleared. Given that I have family in Montagu, I know the R62 route quite well and love the quietness. Also, the stretch of the N2 in the vicinity of Sir Lowry's Pass frustrates me to no end, given the silly 60 and 80 zones. It'll be a quick in-and-out road trip, so the scenery won't concern me too much. :)

I see, just travel safe, and dont drive at night. There are buck on those inland roads and it can get very dangerous. We almost hit 2 buck just outside ?outshoorn? . Also saw a van abandoned with a front impact and blood all the way down the side, must have kit a big kudu or something.

One 20 minute stop & go between Ashton and Swellendam. Had to wait the first time, but timing was perfect on the way back and we slipped right through immediately. Also some slow section before Mosselbay, but no waiting there. Awesome trip. Great fuel consumption too: 7.9l/100km according to the OBC. :)
