RMI certified to work on BMW 7 series E65?

Looking for a new workshop that does have SA Warranty certifications to work on a BMW 750Li or i 2005 - 2008 model.

I had a 2004 730D but SERIOUSLY burnt my fingers with the wrong "certified mechanic" and would like recommendations on this. Looking again at buying a 7 series, but do not want to have the same issues with incompetent mechanics and really do not want to take it to BMW itself for obvious reasons.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Did not buy yet. FIRST want to make sure there are GREAT guys out there that KNOWS these cars before buying one again. Love the cars, but don't want to buy and get burnt/stuck again.

What sort of work.

You are going to find very few people actually qualified to work on that model 7, including the dealers.

Most basic maintenance stuff is exactly the same as the equiv 3 series, brakes filters ect.

But electronic diagnostics, you start out by finding what diagnostics they do use, and if you need to do a valve stem replacement or something, you take it to a retired BMW mechanic.

The cars are not that difficult to work on,

i Always take my car to Supertek they are BMW specialists but close to the rand airport but Paulo is RMI approved and i have never had any issues there:thumbs:

i usually send my car to BMW for services but for certain services for eg. Brake fluid flush, brakes ect BMW's prices are ridiculous so i send my car to them for those and repairs seeing as my car has Software and BMW is full of sh*t when it comes to it

And they do only used BMW approved parts or you have the option of aftermarket upon request

+1. I've had enough bad experiences with RMI approved places. Granted, they aren't specialists in every car brand but then they should probably refer you to someone more suiting for your needs instead of carrying out the work 'poorly'. This is a massive blanket statement as I know of some really good workshops as well.

Also, from what I've heard, in order to be RMI approved/certified, only one member/employee needs to be approved for an entire workshop to have this RMI status (Can someone confirm?)

Saying not to worry about RMI, what kind of warranty could I then get in case I have a turbo problem or engine problem or gearbox etc? Was going the SA Warranty route again, but for that to pay when I need it the book needs to be stamped by an approved dealer? Am I wrong in this?

Yep that's where the problem comes in. 3rd Party Warranties want to see your service records stamped by an RMI approved workshop. I think they give you leeway of 1000km or 30 days or something like that.

RMI means everything when it comes to claiming from warranty. If you have been servicing your car DIY or not using RMI certified workshop, your claim will not be paid.

i have a warranty through MFC for you exact same reason(Worried about turbo failure) and my car has to be up to date with all services through RMI approved places.

They dont have to stamp the book as far as i know all data is logged on your key through BMW and if i take my car anywhere else i keep the receipts in my BMW pouch for future reference:thumbs:

I think you should insist they stamp your book, data logged on the key when you service at dealerships and I stand to be corrected.
