RLS unit

The RLS on my e46 isnt functioning correctly, The automatic lights work, work very well, as soon as its dark they come on. It doesnt seem to pick up rain though, I engage the auto wipers, but no matter how much water is on the windscreen, it doesnt wipe automatically.
What could it be? iv taken the unit out, it sits inside the cover for the rearview mirror. there seems to be a lot of adhesive on the section where it picks up raindrops on the windshield.

Donno if i need a new sensor, or if it needs to be cleaned?
The dealer will only supply the RLS unit with a new windscreen!:cursin:

I found that on the Megane, you have to give it the first wipe and then only does the RLS kick in. Lights also works fine from the start.

Doesnt even work when I do that Hellas, think there might be something wrong with the unit. Its annoying me.

Will try give it a clean and fiddle with it tomorrow.

Maybe some loose wiring on the stalk on auto mode?
