Rev jammed while driving...

Hi guys,

so yesterday, after sitting in some stiff yet not bumper to bumper traffic on Jan Smuts, i got to Park Station, and after 10 minutes, left on my way back home to Randburg.

now after about 5 minutes of driving, i turned from a side road in Braamfontein (road of Braampark) and turned right to go over the steep hill towards Empire, the car revved high into 4500rpm and just played there for a while, i even tapped off and then the rev started dropping very, very slightly...

I had to shift it into Neutral then it went back to normal, has anyone experienced this? (Didnt happen again since then) also hate it when the car hold second gear for a while before it changes...its like its thought process got cemented for a while...

is this normal behavior, the above or something to worry about?

Having the manual, I cant say why this would happen. Perhaps the auto guys can shed some light.

You have the manual? no wonder you car is lighter on fuel...dammit!

according to BMW figures, your car will be almost a litre/100km lighter in some instances..IIRC

Yeah, love my manual, but think next one will be auto.

I honestly hope its nothing serious, perhaps book it in and have it checked out.

Yeah will do, i dont thinks its anything hectic, probably i need software update for the box, otherwise its okay. the holding second gear rev is quite normal to a few auto E90 lCi's...its the high rev hold im worried about

i have a e36 m3 and it did the same thing once and it was the speed control cable that was jamming from time to time when i left of the throttle,i dont know if your car has a fly by wire throttle or not but if it has than it cant be the cable it must be electric

my e36 did this once, actually 2 twice lol, but then i figured it was the auto cruise cable! had to put a power trip swich on the auto cruise

Many years ago at tech, I had a girlfriend with this problem, turns out its not her throttle that gets stuck, nor her orgasm, but she had epilepsy. I sometimes used to hide her medication at night.

Have it check out bud.
As for holding the second gear, I experience that as well, i just put it into sport and manually change the gear

Not sure about uphill, but on a downhill if I start to slack off the car shifts down a gear and builds up revs. I think it's an attempt to aid in braking, but highly annoying. I know exactly when my car is gonna do it, so as soon as I hit a fairly steep downhill I shift into manual sport and into 5th gear to stop it from shifting down.

Get it checked ASAP bud
Rather safe than sorry

I've heard the second gear holding story, wonder what could be the cause of it :fencelook:
