OK gents i feel like a real noob asking such a stoooopid question.

I have a replacement battery from BMW and i need to fit it 2moro.
(e60 530i)

Is it just a matter of taking out the old one and fitting a new one or is there software issue's after the unit is fitted?:sorry:

I know that you are supposed to "register" the new battery with the vehicle on the E70 via the software interface (INPA), so it knows to adjust the charging system accordingly. I don't know if the E60 also requires this.

Yip all bmw's with OBDII should have the new battery "registered"
not 100% sure what would happen if you dont do it

Straight swop for me. No issues. Just to prevent memory loss which is nothing more than a schlep to reprogram radio stations, etc I put a battery onto the charging poles to maintain the power during the swop out.

That's just personal preference.

I think the reason is that the charging system can overcharge the new battery if you don't "tell" it that it now has a new battery. The electrical system is clever enough to compensate for an old battery that does not hold a charge so well anymore.
