Remove center box or not?

Hi,

I am planning to repair/replace my exhaust system and so far the powerflow system is what I have in mind. what I would like to know is: Can I remove the center box entirely and run it straight to the rear silencer? What would it sound like and how will this affect fuel consumption?

Thanks

I wouldn't remove the centre box. If your pipe is too big you'll lose back pressure and have zero torque low down....and then consumption would suffer. I stand corrected but this is my understanding.

I stand under correction.

the centre box is in many instances just a resonator, to prevent droning sounds
90% of all the silencing is done by the rear box
So removal of the centre box will not change the sound very much

What car are you planning on carrying this mod out on?

In lots of cases there is a secondary CAT lurking in the center box, making this mod an all round win :coolshake:

Moose removed the cat on his 318is and replaced it with straight pipe, made the car sound like a toyota tazz, he then fitted a silencer instead and the car sounded pretty stock again but with the benefits of no cats.
