Remembering the 1st time... you got behind the wheel of your Bimmer

It was an overcast Saturday Morning and i organised a test drive with the dealership.

I still remember having doubts about getting it but as soon as i hit the accelerator leaving the dealership yard i fell in love, my stomach sunk into my seat as the revs climbed, and then hit the brakes they were so sharp and balanced, another nice surprise was when i looked up, I looked through a glass sunroof, was so excited/nervous didn't even notice the car had a sunroof when i got in.

needless to say 5 days later, the second time I got in the car, it left the dealership for good :)

It's a good feeling. Not so long ago, Jan this year i test drive my 330d and my 1st words were, i can get use to this.
My previous car, also nice and powerfull i enjoyed for 18 years. Every time, even going to work i enjoyed the car. I know that every time i get into my 330, i have a smile on the dail. Within 4 months i replaced my wife's car with a 323i.
It's only two e46's, but the quality is just better than the average car!

I am "windgat" about my two cars and will even post a pic for you all to see!!! ( Not really, but i will post then anyhow)

wow...you can be "windgat" with those two beauties..

I remember my "firstsss" times very well and each time the experience was different yet exciting...the new car smell is the best and the nervousness when driving the car home...everyone has to stay far away from your new toy:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Went with the E34 525 to pick up the 320d. 'Accidentaly' did a unintended sprint down the N2 main through Somerset West (ok, I didn't quite know the power of the manual diesel compared to the 525 auto...)

Couldn't wipe the smile for hours... :)

It was June of 2000 when I first got behind the wheel of a white E30 1991 325is EVO 2. She was a screamer, had presence, had attitude, had power, had me hooked. I just knew, I had to have this piece of BMW history in my garage.

The rest is history.

Today!
Yesterday!
The day before!

Every day for the last five tanks.... nearly two months now!

Just every time I turn the key to my beauty is like the first time.

I have never in my life experienced any car like this and I had a few stinking brand new ones!

My First BMW, now, at age of 46...... 1997 528i 158000km.

Never to old to learn?

Happy Beeming!!

Joy is......

Even my 15 year old BMW makes my heart do funny things, I actually opened the sun roof this evening in the blistering cold to hear that engine note.

And then there is the old man cruiser, I feel on top of the world when I push that start button and take her for a spin...

it was the morning after my 21st, needed to go to the shop and decided to leave the toyota and try out the soon to be mine e36.
and that was it, i called my old lady, and told her, i will refuse to bring the car back unless i can buy it today.
i didnt return home untill after dark, i went to the vaal, had some graze and then high tailed it to harties.
didnt want to get out of my new car. even tried to park it next to the outside table at the one pub so i could keep an eye on her.
everytime someone walked past i looked at them as if they were planning to do evil things to my car.
4 years later, iv never looked back :)

It was in 1999, my dad's (new) e46 328i, I didn't even need to drive it (was to young in any case), I was hooked, from that day on I knew I wanted a BMW. Hopefully not too long now before I have my own BMW.

Edit: Even though this probably doesn't really count as it isn't my beemer and I wasn't behind the wheel, it was the the ultimate passenger seat driving experience, and I guess in the end it is that which counts

Yea...

Now question, how many of us had that awesome BMW when we were kids, maybe it started then.

I fell in love with big assed cars since I was a little chokkerkie, and that was due to a Metallic Blue E28 520 we had...

I have tried to date.
Nissan
VW
Honda
Audi x 2
Subaru
Mercedes....

My next car will be a BMW.. cause they just rock :)

BMW's do rock

the are fantastic to drive and sometimes we take for granted what awesome machines they really are.

Not taking away anything from other manufactures but ive driven many other cars and you kinda get the feeling those cars were built just for the sake of building a car, but in a bimmer you actually sense this thing was built with passion and purpose.

cars i havnt driven yet are exotics like Ferrari and Porche, Lambo and the rest, but compared to cars in their class Bimmers kick ass handz down. :thumb:

e46guy, they kick more than ass. My previous ride was a Mazda 323 2.0l 16v that was realy hot. A youngster, a good friend of mine bought it from me. Everywhere when he saw me, he was asking when can he take me on with the Mazda against my 330d. I was busy doing some vinyl work on his car and when i finnished the work i told him it's time.
Needless to say, he tried 5 times and he was not very sucsesfull at all! That was a very good and wide grin!!! He said he never knew that a diesel can go like that.

Was test driving my car the first time and I fell in love just there. My father was also with me because at that time I didn't know much about cars, now I know alot.

A week later, on my birthday, my father called and said that I must get my stuff ready as we will be going to sign the papers and collect the car. I was so excited.

My first love with BMW was my dad's 730 Ferrari Red, going to Marula son. Use to fall asleep in the back on the way home. I was perhaps 10 or so.

My first real car was Chev Commadore Striaght 6 A/T (Before it became opel). The one with the overdrive. Man so sad they stole that. Could not go fast but could tow table mountain all they here to JHB.

Nice topic...

Of the 3 that i have owned, the current 330i was my best buy so far.

The 330:
I saw the ad on Autotrader, called the dealer and the salesmen say that they just put the ad on not to long ago and the car was just traded in. Went to look at it, remember, the car just changed hands from the owner to the dealer, the previous owner was still there waiting for his new car papers. So i had the chance to chat to him.

The car was neat, it wasnt valet'd but still was clean. I took it for a drive and signed the OTP immedietly. Finance was buggering me around, had to apply for it on the wifes name as my previous car was not yet off my name. After a week or so, wife and i went to pick it up. She drove it home and was so excited, she loved it. Then it was my turn... I loved it and still do.

The 525i Motorsport:
My Father in law bought the car for himself, when i saw it i told him im taking it as he was buying it to sell it. Went to DBN for a weekend, saw it, drove it for the weekend and loved it. Drove it back to JHB the sunday and sold my velo thereafter.
I like the comfort in the car, that didnt last long as i wanted the speed...

The 323ci:
I always loved the ci, always wanted one. Found one at a Subaru Midrand, signed the deal and drove off. Enjoyed it but then sold it to buy my house... This was my first owned BMW.

The first BMW i "really" drove...
It was a Dolphin shape, 328i manual with the full M3 kit including wheels. It had a performance exhaust of some kind. It was a friend of mine from the South Coast of KZN. He had come down to dbn and was staying with us. That Saturday night we went to the local drag spot and had some races. The sunday we got up early and i went with him to his house which was in Port Shepstone. I drove as he was asleep. I took that car all the way down to the end, each gear going to limiter. Man, i enjoyed it. I think that car made me a BMW fan.

I remember my first time. :)

I had actually bought the car without seeing it in person (only pics)... a bit risky, I know. The guys sent all the car's particulars. Had a mate (mechanic) of mine go and check the car as I wasnt mobile at the time (my previous car had sold quicker than I thought). Ran the vin through the dealership. They took it to the AA and the DMV. Gave me a legally binding document signed....should any problems arise. Anywooo..I rememebr having to wait for 3 days, as the money hadnt cleared (weekends and banks). Finally, she arrived on my driveway on monday morning. My heart sank as she was shiny as ever, purred like a cat with a lovey dee growl. I remember the gentleman who delivered the car to me (an emloyee of the previous owner), telling me how lucky I was. He asked if I wanted to drive her to the DMV to do the ownership exchange hoo-haa. I was too nervous at the time, so I asked him to do it for me. Driving her home was a nerve wrecking, and exciting momement all in one. Never went aboe 80 on the highway, and 60 on normal roads... I was still adjusting to her. Ooooh, I think I just creamed myself. :mmm::)
