Redline oil is amazing!!

Yeah, I know I sound like an infomercial, but seriously, this stuff rocks!

My 2002 had some difficulty shifting from 3rd to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st. Sometimes crunching if im too quick and sometimes just doesn't go in without a blip. Its fun too heel-and-toe, but not so much when knowing you might damage your gears.

I read on another forum that getting a thinner oil with a greater film strength can help quicken shifting, and might squeeze some life out of my 43 yeard old gearbox.

Redline MTL was recommended and I know the classic Ferrari crowd use it the help with the second gear problem on 60s and 70s Ferraris

Bottom line is I can now shift smoothly up and down without any difficulty. The difference is literally night and day. And its not like my old fluid was, well... old, it was 3 years old and in perfect condition when it came out.

I would recommend redline mtl to anybody really, its that good! No, I do not own and shares in the company, other than a R1000 worth of oil in my garage. :)

Regards
Jacques

Not sure if it works on e46 M3 boxes... Heard they require special magic oil... LOL

I also have a stiff 1st and 2nd gear.

Where can one find this amazing lube?

Chemsail in jhb was the cheapest, and delivered to my door the next day... It runs about R250/quart (0.946l) Another place quoted R485 +vat!!

I know of a 1000bhp e46 m3 from the US that run their shockproof gear oils.

And most others run D4 ATF in the M3
See here. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3547-e46-m3-red-line-transmission-differential-oils.aspx

Seems like a lot of m3 guys use it as it smooths out changes just by a quick Google search.

Maybe the Z4M guys can look into this as I know their 1st to 2nd shift is not the smoothest either

Calling Andy?

I put this into my E30 after I had to drain all the fluid after the flooding. The gearshift is so much better now. I had the fluid changed out about 4 years ago. Don't know what they used, but it's now much better and nicer to drive.

Yup, people run a 50/50 mix of MTL and MT-90 in the Z4m, it uses the same gbox as the Z4 3.0i.

Fuchs makes great oil, but I don't know that specific product.

Redline costs about R250 per quart.

Well, it's the right spec for the E30 going by the user manual. It was about R160 per bottle. So I thought I would go for something nice/more expensive and I'm happy I did :thumb:

I've heard the yanks love Royal Purple Synchromax for the e46 M3. Especially for guys using the short shift kits, as the 1st to 2nd gear changes are a ballache to make. Believe me... I hate it...

So... Where do I get some of this redline oil, seeing as I cannot find Royal Purple anywhere.
