Red battery sign engaged on the dashboard

I noticed that the red battrey sign came on from the dashboard. Also, the steering wheel is a bit hard to turn on my 320d E90. What could be the possible problem. Just checked the manual and it says the alternator problem. Any suggestion??:

Serpentine belt if the steering is also causing issues. Don't drive it.

Red batttery means that the battery isn't getting charged.

double check on this

snapped/broken belt

Battery light means the Alternator isn't turning and charging the battery
Also driven by the same belt is the power-steering pump, hence the stiff steering

apart from difficulty steering, nothing is charging the battery anymore, and once the battery gets flat, thats it...stuck

should be a reasonably easy fix....but don't drive it for now !

Does that belt not drive the water pump as well? It does on the E39.

Drive it like that and you'll cook the motor. So either get it repaired where it is or tow it.

Only petrol E90's have electric water pumps. The diesels still have belt driven units.

Agree with Chef... if you drive it you going to damage it. Get is repaired asap

Have you checked Fan Belt( some call it Serpentine belt)?

I fact it is the crank pulley that snapped and not the V-belt:smashScreen:
How were you able to do that? That's a first I have heard of. But that price is hectic though if it's only pully and belt.
