Rear shock broke through rubber mounting.

Hi all.
Interesting problem, suddenly after a month, my right rear shock tore through the top rubber mounting.
Replaced the coil spring and the mounting, and almost immediately it happened again, and again.
My question, shouldn't the shock bottom out before it can push up high enough to go through the mounting and will the body not hit the tyre before the shock bottoms out ?
Any ideas ?

Check if the shocks are the right shocks for the car and have the rubber mountings ever been replaced bud ? Sounds like the shock is not doing its job, by my understating it should bottom out, also sounds like something else it at play here cause it sounds like it is bottoming out and then whilst bottoming out it is being push through the mounting.

I would suggest you take it to a Ash at Koni in boksburg, he knows his sh1t and deals with it everyday.

is this on a E46? if yes.. when you're re-assembling the shock, are you putting the bits in the correct order?

you could be forgetting something when putting it all back (that little washer in the first pic has to be there btw) .. have a look at these pics for the right order:

It's a e36. I put everything back just as it came out the old shock.
It went well for just over a month before it started doing this.

Thanx. Also think something else at play here.
My confusion is, shouldn't the body hit the wheel before the shock bottoms out ?
