Rear-Left Wheel Speed sensor not working

Hi Fanatics,

My car has an issue with the rear-left wheel speed sensor, so my speedometer stopped working and the ABS and handbrake lights stay on permenantly.

I took it to Brake and Clutch in Randburg, and the guy tells me that he has tried replacing the sensor with 3 new sensors and reset them - but it's still not working.

Apparently, the problem may be linked to the 'arm' of the wheel... or something about the hub where the sensor slots in?

Can you share your thoughts about where the problem could be? He says I'm looking at spending 10k to get it right? :thumbdo: :nonono:

The diagnosis only finds the wheel-speed sensor as the only fault...so I'm confused.
:bangdesk:

Please help.

Maybe he did not clean out the pocket in which the sensor fits. Either way, I'd be hesitant to whip out more cash at this stage. Get a replacement sensor (or swop out around) and drive around a bit to see if the ECU picks up the new sensor.

Also, unplug the battery for a bit after refitting the sensor.

Are those lights in any way intermittent? Do any other lights come on at the same time whilst driving for a second or two and the car does not hesitate at all when driving over bumps right?

Hey Mike, there are 3 lights that stay permenantly on - the ASC, the handbrake and the ABS lights. No other lights come while driving and the car feels normal when driving.

Thats definitely the wheel speed sensor, at R150 they are cheap from the dealer.

Also, do yourself a favour and just check the terminals on your battery. Make sure both positive and negative are secure as I once spent days trying to figure out the same thing and it was a loose positive connection.

tell the mech you need pics of the problem so you can post them up :)

And pics of the mech...with his address...

i find it hard to believe that some how the hole for the sensor got damaged without the arm being bent to something like that (i dont see that happening easily ether :) )...
