Rear Brake light warning sensor stays on

Hi Guys

I dont if this has been posted but i have found the soution to a comom bmw E46 problem on ur dash it shows that ur rear tail/brake ;ights are blown but they are working fine do ur self a fav check the licence plate bulbs and the warring lights will go away if they do not u have grounding problem in the boot

Sometimes it is also caused by older bulbs then you just replace bulbs one at a time till the warning goes away.

also it a good idea to get test meter the check the wire in the rubber boot that joins the boot lids wireing they tend to brake off over time opening and closing the boot that how i solved my waring light issues

Check the condition of the ground wire (I think it's brown) and the connector - sometimes this connector corrodes a bit due to the high current and needs to be cleaned.

Buy the plugs and pins from BMW and do the modification as sugested by BMW on both lights. Yours are probably burnt contacts due to a desing error on all e46 models and cused by to much current on the thin earth wire. Ad an extra earth wire to the body and the light holder. Check this link

On all the E46 models I have worked on the numberplate lights does not show on dash

numberplate lights were my fault on mine i think if both are blown then it will show

i've got a similar problem. but mine is intermitant it doesn't give the warning all the time. do you think it's the same ground that would be responsible.

do ur self a fav coz that how mine started there is rubber boot that is atched to the boot lid and the car what happed to mine was some of the wires broke off rejoined them problem solved the the ground is a good place to take a look

Just unplug the cluster at each rear light and inspect the bulb holder and plug for sings of melting plastic. If its melted thats your problem
