Rear Axle Carrier Problem

I have been hearing a grinding/squeaking sound from the rear for a few days now. I thought it was just a bushing that needed replacement. I popped into Leo Haese today and it seems LHS plate that the carrier bolts onto has come through the body of the car. :cursin:

Anyone else experience this and how did you sort it out? Is this the whole subframe problem experienced by e46's or is it something else? The BMW tech says it's the first time he has seen something like that!!! He also said the diff mount bushing seemed to hard and may be a pirate bushing cos it should have taken care of the bumps etc. by getting worn out.

I am sure I had that replaced a few years ago but cannot remember where:cursin:

I need to call a panelbeater.:bawling:

Rear Subframe Failure, there was a class action lawsuit which BMW lost in the States to this effect, and they have to cover the repairs. Good luck trying to get BMWSA to admit to any fault whatsoever, dealerships will even tell you that its the first time they have ever seen anything like that, and it MUST be a result of your driving style.

I have read about that. Spoke to Sav who referred me to Premier Auto Refinishers in Selby JHB. He needs to inspect the damage but worst case will cost me R8k:bawling:

I am not sure about taking this up with BMW as that process may take too long and I need the car sorted out asap. Will maybe look into it after the repair.

R8000 sounds like a lot. Try finding a repair kit online and then get someone to weld it in. Otherwise next time you see a big pot hole take a picture and claim from Munincipality or SANRAL hehe.
