Realistic Price for a 135I

Hi Fellow Fanatics,

Hoping you guys can help with info on the price point i should be aiming for when selling my 2012 135I.

I recently had an opportunity to trade in the car but the trade price was laughable. (R172k) I subsequently decided not to trade the car and instead traded my VW polo for which i think i received a fair price.

I am now considering selling privately (Not looking forward to the challenge) and need to know what a realistic price will be for the car. I dont want the car to sit forever in the classifieds but i also do not want to "give it away".

Your guys input will be greatly appreciated.

A little info on the car to help the realistic price point :
2012 Model LCi DCT.
104k kms
Full BMW service history (8000kms to next service)
Alpine white with black Leather.
Sat nav
Xenons
Sunroof

I had a 135i very similar to yours. Ended up selling it privately for about 40k more than I was offered on trade. Not sure if that's any help to you.

You mention that you feel R172K is laughable. What would have considered as a good price?

Seeing the prices vary from R225 all the way to R300k. I thought a good specimen would at least warrant an offer from the dealer of around R200k

yeah it was a dealer in Randburg
Can't compare private sale price to what dealers are asking. Dealer purchase comes with certain guarantees, one being the 6 month CPA warranty (for what it's worth). Dealers have to price this in, hence the higher price. Private sale is 'voetstoets'. To the OP, get offers from WBC and Weelie. Then look what the cars sell for on Autotrader and list at the median of the two ranges, with room to negotiate down, but obviously above the WBC and Weelie prices.

210k should go easy enough with a happy buyer + satisfied seller.

Depends on condition of the car.

I know two guys that paid near 240k for N54s and also someone else who paid the same for a 2012 135i manual.

All priced last year BUT the cars were on market for a while.

Thanks for the replies guys. Tried the WBC route this morning, they came in a little low and then started harassing me after with the ï spoke to my senior and we can offer you 10k more if you serious about selling". Why not just offer the best price you can upfront?

Going to try the private route for now and see how that goes. Got some fanatics have have pm'd so hopefully i can pass on my baby to a fellow fanatic.

Give Weelee a chance. They offered me about ~R50K more than WBC if I recall correctly.

The issue is that WBC's way of doing business changed. This seems to be as a result of Transaction Capital buying into the business. They no longer offer competitive trade-in prices. I have also seen their selling prices going above and beyond retail values. If a customer wants to finance a vehicle, all roadworthy related repairs noted on its Dekra Report is charged to the customer. I think they have reached some kind of a market saturation point as they keep buying older cars with very high mileage and problems, resulting in their warehouses being overstocked due to buyers not wanting these types of vehicles. (Probably why dealers offered low values on those cars in the first place.

Most independent dealers will want to make at least a R50k profit on a vehicle, hence the low trade-in offer presented to you. Rather get evaluations from multiple dealers and then decide. Private sales have their own associated advantages and risks.
