Hi guys

rodga here - from the vwclub.....
some of you guys will know me from there

When I came up to Gauteng I had a neat 2003 G4 132kw gti. Not too long after that I convinced the old man to give up his 2004 e46 325ci. That was when I signed up here, had it for a short while and sold it in 2010 iirc just before the mplan expired. Still miss both cars though.

Late 2010 decided to buy another gti after searching for a year almost for neat and decently priced G5 - there were all over priced when I was looking and decided to get a new G6 instead. Its a great car. But my time with her is almost at an end. As I needed free up some cash, she has been up for sale for the last couple of weeks now. Just confirmation from the buyer that he wants to take it.

One of the pics I took for the for sale thread

So now Im back here looking for a good deal ;)
Got my eyes set on an e39 msport - I just love them and the past few weeks Ive doing alot of reading up on them. Still not sure which derivative though. And a bit of interrogation of chefdj :tease:
Hopefully I find what Im looking for.

I must say Im quite impressed by all the recent events you guys are having, big ups to Arbee and the other guys behind the scene (sorry only know mrA from the vwclub). Heres to many more!!

Wlecome Rodga,

Sorry bout the VW... she was in awesome condition.... :(

What is your budget...

My perfect answer to the most epic BMW that can be had for very little money would be an E60 530d (in manual if you can)

What exactly are ya looking for

Good cruiser, boy racer, executive toy...

OK with diesel ?

The E39's are epic, but they are getting really dated.... they stopped producing in 2001 so the youngest you could buy is 13 years old....

Not that this is a problem, provided the car has been decently maintained.

If you are absolutely stupid and want to buy a car that cannot handle, will break down on site, is a total utter boat, you can take a look at the E38 or even the E65 (if you can see through the sarcasm....)

If you can get over the "old" factor, you can pick them up for the price of a packet of cheetos...

I absolutely love the 7...

What do you want.....

Hey man
Ya it was great car, and the scratch you removed on the passenger rear door was really good, no one picked it up but I did tell everyone who came to view about it.

I really like the e39 esp the msport and think the last ones were sold in 2003 Iirc. I'm still looking though and anything is possible, even considered the x3 you selling but my plan was to spend about 50/60k and keep aside +-20k for any repairs that need to be done. 330i and 330d is also a possibility.

Was never really a fan of the e60/65 but always liked the e38. There is also a touring that may be an option but some say the 2.5 is a bit underpowered...

I'm actually planning to have a look at an e39 530d this weekend, chefdj offered to come along but unfortunately won't be available this weekend. It's jhb south if you know anyone in that area that knows these cars I can take it to have a look at maybe even who can do a diagnostic??

I am in Jhb south, I can maybe go and take a look for you during the week, weekend I am away :(

E39 530d is an epic car, any car with the M57N is.

On the e39 just watch the gearbox, the diesels in particular as they deliver high amounts of torque, and if a gearbox goes, your looking at like 20 to 30k

And your right, e39 was until 2003, my bad... thats what happens when you post at 2am.

Yea the 2.5's were never popular, simply because their fuel consumption was about the same if not slightly heavier,

im also going to have a look at Willys touring
although my only concern is that it may be a bit underpowered esp to what im used to

Yea, thats very important

My 535 is seriously annoying me, as it has so little torque compared to my diesels and V8's that I have driven. Spoils what is otherwise an EPIC car.

So do not compromise.

Hey bud, some lovely cars in your past. Wish you all the best with your search for an E39, they do represent awesome value for money. The M-Sport/Individual models are definetly the ones to go for as they dont look dated among current models.

Pity you missed the car listed above, looks to have been an awesome car. You had any further details on the car as the asking price looks to be quite low for the model, should be selling between R30-R50k more for a car in good condition.

I think the injectors might have needed a refurb or replacement and the turbo was also replaced a while back
the auto box was apparently fine
