OK, so before i start, i by no means favour any tuner or SW provider any more than the other
The people I have dealt with are all awesome and know their story like the backs of their hands
So I will try and keep this as short and sweet as possible
Firstly, sherwin from Xcede was gonna chip my 335.
I met up with him twice for lunch
, first time to read the base map so he can go and write the map
Second time was to load the map and then see how it feels
Unfortunately and to the surprize of us both, the OBD had a security lock protection on it from BMW
Anyways, Sherwin said he is sure he would get around it somehow but I just didnt have the time etc to go through all the hassles and wasting Sherwins time etc as my car was already pushing good figures
Then i forgot all about it etc until my mate called me and said his friend wanted to use my 335i as a promo and do a map load on it, he is working in conjunction with DNA tuning in the UK (http://www.dnatuning.com) and wanted a 335i to use to show the gains etc etc and then they have a client in SA that can then report back on it
However, 2 days before i went to have the flash done, my car went into BMW for a service and they updated my ECU
This is where it gets scary
When paul was trying to load my map we were then confronted with a LEVEL 6 security lock on my OBD :banghead:
So that was that out of the window
Then that brings me to another 'master' of the tuning world (yoda comes to mind LOL), OB from Chiplogic
Now as some of you may know, he does the SW for George Smooths 335 which ran a 12.5 quarter mile
On Saterday we had a twin turbo get together at Chiplogic that was arranged by George Smooth with OB
All the guys done a dyno and we all had a good chat
Then sunday morning my phone rings and its the one and only Yoda erm i mean OB :spit:
tells me to come through to the shop quickly as he wants to crack the level 6 security lock on my car and run a map
Well, behold he done it, it took some time and effort but he certainly done it and we mapped the car
17 dyno runs later we were happy with what we got
Pity I had to leave SA and never really got to test it fully and put a good few km's onto it to make sure it was fully adapted
But from the few runs i did have I was very impressed, very smooth and can feel a good gain
So to conclude, this doesnt mean my car will still have SW on it when i get back to SA as this was a training excercise with regards to breaking the securty lock and me using mine as the guinea pig, besides, maps like this cost money
So I will be going back to OB when Im home and the car will probably be flashed back to stock until the day comes that I permanently decide on a SW that im 100% happy with, and so far OB is one of them
have to also give a thumbs up to Sherwin who always keeps in touch with me aswell to let me know his progress with other 335i's that were in my situation
I have attached the dyno sheet for your perusal
Nice work OB and your commitment to getting this sorted is extraordinary (7 hours of his own time on a Sunday):clap:
