hi guys.

this is my first post here. I love this forum and it has alot of.great information.

my wife's e90 320i mpack with 126000km and has developed a rattle/growling noise from the engine at low rpm. it happens when you set of and the revs is between 800 and 1000 rpm. the same happens when goining over a speed hump in second and rev's drop to 800 rpm. it also happens if you blip the throttle.

its next service is a long way away and its just out of motorplan so I dont wat to take it to the dealers for something that might be a small issue.

doea someone know what it might be??

Engine mounting maybe?

Could perhaps be a loose pulley. I'm not to clued up with that motor...do u have vanos? Could be the vanos gear that's worn

Hmmm does this noise only happen when you have the wife or dog in the boot ? LOL. On a serious note if it’s a manual it might be clutch releaser bearing or the dual mass flywheel.

Hehe thanks for the replies so far. I have already replaced the engine mountings and it wasn't the problem.

will the dual mass make a sound if its broken?. i never drive the car and only noticed it the other day. have to say the other day i noticed the clutch shuttered a bit..

i asked my wife when it started making this sound and she said it has been doing it a month or 2 :flyfun: thought it was the cold?/.a';mfslghiesfrghiklmds:nonono:

Well the rattle is fix after a R7000-00 visit to BMW. they changed all the pulleys that works with the V-belt. :argh:

Yea... you'll need to invest in one of these if you're going to visit the agents...

HI All,

This is my first post. I seem to be having the same problem as described above. Although I have replaced the Tensioner and Idler pully as well as the waterpump and Belt. This cost me some money to do and still the problem is there. It sounds as though it is coming from the left hand side when you are standing in front of the car and the noise is replicated. I am wondering if it is not the Plastic cover on the engine, will check that this weekend.

This noise came about after some guy pulled in front of me and I had to swerve to avoid the accident...sending me over the pavement. The car went to BMW for repairs through insurance but they didn't do much about it and now the case is closed so I am sitting with the problem.

@Apples - Did the dealer by any chance say what the problematic pully was?

Please help.
