Radio unit enquiry

Hi fellow fanatics. I need help please. I recently got myself a E39 530i and dont know what this piece of metal is sticking out the radio unit. Please see pic.
Any help would be appreciated...what is it and how do i remove it please. It seems to be stuck in there.

Looks like it was for those phone mounts, but I could be wrong.
Its pretty easy to remove the radio (google/youtube) so you can just check what it is and remove it.
