Radio - Code required

Hi all
I bought a second hand radio for my e36 being told that BMW can provide me with the code required to unlock it.
According to BMW it is impossible to provide me with a code without providing them with the Chassis number from the vehicle it originated from.

Can anyone advise if there is still a possibility to get this radio code by any other means.

The radio is a Grundig - Model WKC 3883
BMW Bavaria RDS by Carmatech SA
P/N 2942527
S/N 3180160 024180

Your help is appreciated.

have you tried taking it out and checking on top..? the code is often printed on the top surface of the radio...

Wouldn't that be stupid?

Thanx but still no luck. There is a couple of decoding programs available on the net but they only work for BMW's sold outside SA.

I'm not aware of any SA version around. Since you need to pay for getting the code in other countries, it opened up a gap for IT gurus to write their own decoding programs.

BMW SA put different serial numbers on our local radios. With as it appears no trace record on them. Probably the reason why the codes appear on top of many units. Unfortunately not mine.

Perhaps BMW can trace it by serial number but there might be a company policy on this. If this is a case at least they did the right thing to stop any demand for 2nd hand radios. I think most radio thieves don't have time to write down the VIN on the license disc.

give Ross Duncan a ring on 011-8053219, he can uncode it, and then reset car on PC afterwards
