I fitted a new radiator for 1999 318i (E46) recently after the radiator plastic pipe was found to be corroded which resulted in a water leak.
The car never overheated and after fitting the new radiator, a pressure test was perfomed. I was subsequently informed that there is exhaust gasses in the radiator with tiny bubbles and that the head needs skimming with a new head gasket to be fitted.
I never had any problems with this car however, this appear to be a major expense.
At the same time, when the car is idling and you remove the oil cap there is a suction noise. What is the cause of this problem and how can this be recitified.
Would appreciate any advice on an estimate for repair costs, however not at a dealer.
