Racing/Drifting Sponsors

Hi guys!

Because of my passion for cars and racing, I would love to start racing and/or drifting as a regular hobby, and participate in racing events. Are there sponsors out there who would consider sponsoring me for this? Or can someone point me in the right direction?

This is something I have been wanting to do for the past three years, and I have decided to start working at it!

Also, can you recommend any advanced driving schools in the JHB area? Preferably as close to Fourways as possible...

Thanks in advance! You guys are always awesome!

I am currently saving for a BMW 3 series. Haven't yet decided which one exactly. My other preference would be a Chev Lumina.

But if I can get a sponsor who already has a racing car for me to use, then that would be great. Although I doubt that's easy to come by!

I would speak to the race drivers the next time you attend an event and get advice from them. Your cheapest intro into the sport is Kart racing.

I should say least expensive rather.
You won't just need a Kart. For a full season your budget needs to cater for spare tyres, brake pads, repairs, time and travel. You may need to factor in a mechanic.
If you land on the podium consistently you May get sponsor interest. I would to one of the track where Kart events are held. There are usually karts you can rent out just to get a feel for it.

It was cheaper..... Less expensive for me to do a big turbo conversion on my 335i than get into Kart racing.

If you are keen visit www.kart.co.za

Ask any racing driver, it's damn hard to find sponsors, even if you can drive like the stig! When you do find a sponsor they will only cover a very small part of your racing budget and they may have a clause that you have to be fast and consistent to earn the sponsorship. Multiple sponsors are needed to cover most of your racing costs. Unfortunately there are very few businesses in SA willing to sponsor racing, the few that are already have sponsored drivers so you would need to prove to them you are better than their current sponsored driver.

Awesome !!!

I am currently building a drift car. Thing is to compete you going to need 160+ kw to slide easily. I am building a 325i with a welded diff. To get it sliding on the track you will need to stay in high revs and when you change direction it's gonna be killer cause your car won't have the power so you gonna have to drop gear to get the revs up again. Since most of these cars are old the motors can't really take that type of abuse for long periods.

Decide on a budget and as for aquiring a sponsor it going to be very difficult

My car is being built for fun and nothing serious.

If you are after the same thing my advice is

Find a 328i or 325i e36 manual
Auto diff and weld it
Bucket seat with harness
Hydro ebrake
Cheap coil overs
Pump the rear tyres to 3+ bar

AND HAVE FUN !

The nice thing about the e36 is there is so many aftermarket parts out there for budget builds and the e36 isn't as high risk as an e30.

Here is my drift missile aka Rough Rider

Do you have any racing / track day experience first off ? It very difficult to get into the racing scene if you don't have to initial cash to start of and can't get somewhere until you find a sponsor (which are just as scarce even if you are good).

I have an e36 325i laying in the warehouse. Bought it from a guy that didn't fully complete the project. It's a 325i with a welded diff. Roll cage and racing seat is already installed. The car also has a diktator management system. It has lowered springs but I would change it coilovers for better handling. I bought it for me but then found another car which was setup better for track so letting this one go. I want 32k . Call me on 0834884497
