RaceSA & BMWFanatics Private Drag Racing Event

Good Day Fanatics.

So ever since our official Raceday 2018, the drag racing guys have been asking over and over again for a chance to go at it again, but with 1km runs. Knowing 1st hand the challenges of how big a task it is to setup any racing event, we decided to contact our close buddy Nazzy from RaceSA to discuss what can be done to set it up.

Dvst8 and I have been planning this but our idea was to have a day where guys would come out and have a drag racing event solely for the pure fun of it, with no politics, no nonsense and straight out headup racing for the day.

They asked for 1km runs and the only place to accommodate that in SA is ODI so venue was sorted with Nazzy. The response is overwhelming, since last week and the details are below. Spots are selling out extremely fast so if you interested its best you sign up now.

Racing from 8.30/9am to 3.30pm/4pm (To be finalized by next week)
Venue : ODI Raceway
Type : 1km headup Racing.
(traps at 400m and 1km) Truvelo equipment.
Amount : R850

What a day...

The weather was insanely hot but that didn't deter the guys having a great deal of fun.

1st Convoy met at samrand and the PTA and JHB convoys converged at the engen garage just after the toll gate and we made out way to the drag strip. As always RaceSA never dissapoints and his team run like clockwork making sure everything and everyone is happy and catered for.

We started an hour late waiting for drivers who got caught up to arrive, but at 9. 30 the racing started and it was a blast from the word go.

55 drivers with their cars came to have a fun day. The rules were simple, no classes, no trophies, no politics. Just come out and have a drag racing event with a headup 1km races.

We tried this format for the 1st time, and it worked out extremely well for the drivers. Coupled with the limited entries, we achieved our goal of bringing down queing times drastically down to an average of 10min with the max being 15 of a driver having another run. The attendance list was amazing, with naturally BMWs galore, but we had some. Company from our German counterparts from the Merc, Audi and VW stables.

Dispite the intense heat, the guys had a blast and pushed their cars as far as safety possible, with some crazy times being layed down over the quarter mile and 1km respectively. We will have official times posted later in the week along with the official gallery of pictures from Eric Basswolf Photography.

We would like to thank all those who came out to attend at participants and spectators for their time and effort is making it a huge success. To Nazzy from RaceSA, Dvst8 and Riyo... Thanks the effort put into it and making sure it went off well. Always a pleasure working with you guys.

The biggest shout-out goes out to Newcastle AMG boys with their insane machines. Not only did they make the trek, but they are hugely responsible for making this day even possible with the sponsorship coming from MST auto and Walkot Cars. On behalf of BMWFanatics, RaceSA and all the drivers thanks A million guys, your passion for the sport will never be forgotten.
