....I opened a discussion about the Mach Competition Concentrated Unleaded Race Fuel on the 28 January 2011 and to get a sense of our forum members' experience with this particular product. The Mach Series Accelerator Unleaded Race Fuel Concentrate, which is not an octane booster but a highly concentrated race fuel.

Here is my previous thread: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=15955

I have been spending in 2010 a minimum of R1,000 per month on race fuel. My December/Jan bill was close to R6,000. My 335 has been responding very well to BP 98, but the fuel is expensive. I have had a very happy supplier for a very long time. :) Until now that is.

I promised to give you feedback and postponed it everytime. This is what I eventually did:

TEST ONE: (BP 98 Octane Unleaded)

I filled my tank with 20 liters BP race fuel, 98 octane from a sealed drum, I may say and as always the car responded well to 98. Start up is smoother and the drive is quieter but the car does not "feel" noticably stronger. With this fuel you know you get a premuim fuel but it comes with a heavy price tag and I am not sure if (98 octane) clasifies as a racefuel being 3 RON up from (95 octane). But it still gets a

TEST TWO (Sunoco 109 Unleaded)

After a couple of days with 98, I finished the tank and filled up with pump fuel; finished that and filled my tank with, Sunoco 109 Ron unleaded (260 GT Plus). A sealed drum and paid R1,100 for it. Car definitely pulled stronger; start up was also quieter and I noticed a drop in fuel consumption from a daily average of 12.4 down to 11.8. I am impressed with this fuel despite the hefty price. But I expected the car to do well with this fuel and only included it in my "tests" to compare with my butt dyno. You can't go wrong here, you get what you pay for.

TEST THREE (Pump Fuel 95 plus Mach Race Fuel Concentrate)

Same procedure as above; after a couple of days with 109; finished the tank and filled up with pump again; finished that and filled my tank with 20 Liters of 95 Pump fuel, using the same Engen garage everytime. Then I poured the entire bottle of Race Fuel Concentrate into the tank and according to the Mach series instructions on the bottle this should be good to produce between 109 + octane. Here is the thing guys: The power bump could be felt immediately after about 3 kilometers and the next day the car felt even stronger. There was a distinct, and strong power increase compared to the 98 and 109 fuel. The car is very strong. But this is what my butt was telling me and butt's have been known to be wrong...:)...I also noticed a slight increase in fuel consumption and it seems the fuel burns slower...?...compared to the Sunoco 109. Have to read more about this though.

TEST FOUR: (BP 98 Octane Unleaded plus Mach Race Fuel Concentrate)

Same procedure as above; after a couple of days with the 95 Pump Fuel and Mach Concentrate; finished the tank and filled up with pump again; finished that and filled my tank with 20 Liters of BP 98 Race Fuel and pouring the entire contents of a bottle of Mach Race Fuel Concentrate into the tank. The Competition Race Fuel website (or some where I read) this combination should produce "nitrous fuel". In other words, enough to meet the most stringent of racing drivers octane requirements. Look, my car became completely insane with the Mach Concentrate Race Fuel & BP 98 octane mixed combination. Regular wheel spin in normal "drive" mode and the exhaust sounds loud, racy and simply wonderful. Those that attended our last Exclusively ///M breakfast run a couple of weeks ago saw & heard me show off on arrival. The car sounds amazing, even if I have to say it myself. :mmm:

So far all of these "tests" have been my subjective experiences and sounds all nice and may have a sense of plausibility about them. Revo on the other hand was doing his own "tests" and confirmed my experiences. But I needed to be certain especially since I desperately needed an alternative race fuel for daily use but also meet my N20 application and does not cost me an arm and a leg on a monthly basis.

TEST FIVE (DYNO RUNS)

I asked All Speed Racing (ART) to put the car on the dyno and do all the necessary datalogging. The only answer I wanted was; is there a gain in HP & TQ when using the Mach Concentrate Race Fuel; and if so what are the numbers? They spent a full day, getting the car ready and down to "stock" level if that was at all possible :) And as we know ART they wanted to check everything with each run and we ended up with plenty more info than what I was really interested in. Kind of fascinating to see how they work and the car plugged with so many gauges and readers and sensors connected to the exhaust pipe etc. Please note that ART does all its dyno testing at the wheels, so for the Capetonians we included the flywheel reading as well. Secondly, dont expect a fancy graph, I dont want a graph to distract from my findings in this discussion. Also note the ART dyno is not used for public purposes only for their own internal dyno testing & tuning so its widely known for being extremely conservative compared to the Hyper dynos in the Cape; which served our purposes even more. One can actually expect more from this fuel on the road.

The first two runs was to get a Baseline reading. We filled the car with normal 95 Pump fuel and lowered the JB4 to its lowest map one (1). The best of the two base runs were as follows:

DYNO BASE READING:

Wheel power = 216.4 kw

Engine power: 264.6kw (corrected)

Engine torque: 524nm (corrected)

DYNO READING: (Pump Fuel 95 mixed with Mach Concentrate Race Fuel: The best of two runs were:

Wheel power = 221.3 kw

Engine power: 270.3 kw (corrected)

Engine torque: 550nm (corrected)

We gained a slight wheel power increase of 6/7 Kw but a meaty 26 Nm by just adding the Mach Concentrated Race Fuel. We were also very pleased with the AFR's for each run. There were so many logs taken, its crazy info. Running a higher boost map will net a bigger gain with this fuel or developing a special map to extract all the benfits of this fuel can certainly be achieved.

DYNO READING: Pump Fuel 95 mixed with Mach Concentrate Race Fuel; Nitrous and Meth activated:

Still on JB4 map One (1). Unfortunately, we could not get a proper reading. The car could not get any traction, whatever we tried. Deflating the tyres did not help. We did not have big enough helpers to fill the boot. Revo's technical mind could only look while the car struggles for traction on almost brand new street tyres. There was so much Tq it was actually funny to say the least. As on the road with Nitrous activated there is a tremendous amount of power going to the wheels with 1st gear being non existent. The only option was to consider a smaller nitrous jet for this dyno run but ART decided to stop the testing since we got the information we initially wanted. The car having done its duty for the entire day.

So what does this all mean.

1. We are so impressed with The Mach Series Accelerator Unleaded Race Fuel Concentrate that we have decided to add the product to the Rennzport listing and import it ourselves for our customers. We will be selling the product for R160 per sealed bottle.

2. The BP 98 Octane Unleaded mixed with the Mach Race Fuel Concentrate makes for a seriously potent race fuel mixure and we will be experimenting with this for a while to come with our nitrous applications. So my supplier will be seeing me in the foreseebale future. :pimp: One of our customers have just installed a 4 fogger nitrous kit and we think the demand for the Mach Concentrated Fuel will increase after our positive results on the dyno and the road.

3. For daily, general or track use for your NA and boosted applications we now highly recommend that you explore The Mach Series Accelerator Unleaded Race Fuel Concentrate. We have customers in KZN & GP that will be giving us feedback on their dyno & drag testing with the fuel in the next month or so. We will watch this space with interest.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

One bottle mixed with 20 liters of pump fuel. Drop us a PM if you want to try it in the 330. Or if it is easier to pop in ART we can arrange it for you.

i would like to see what difference it would make on an NA car...

i think it could possibly make a big difference to an M3 which should be running on better fuel...

but im not so sure it will make a big difference to other NA cars...
if it does i can see i will be spending a little more on filling up my car :) please keep us posted on the results people get

Would this make a difference to older gen cars? Say my '96 328i for example?

Perhaps you could test a can or two on my car.. I am about 2 mins from ART :)
