for those lazy like me.. :=):

kewl thanks for the info man! lol I didn't know about it  if only it was a bit less expensive :argh:

I actually thought about just getting a 7" andriod tablet like this one. There are hundreds of different ones for very cheap and I wont feel too bad about taking it apart for a nice custom fit in my e36!

TBH, after testing out my PI for a couple of weeks now, I honestly don't think that it will live up to this challenge. It just does not have the CPU power to give you a smooth seamless user experience. Sure, it does HD playback flawlessly, but anything that requires CPU, you are back to a Pentium 3 300Mhz equivalent.

How much did u pay for it? I know its pretty damn low spec, but for the price it was quite attractive just to mess around with... but now the prices have gone up almost past the mini Android pc's prices that at least have a 1GHz or 1.2GHz processor. And considering a Liliput 7" touch screen with hdmi input costs around ~R2000(?) I think its better to just get the 7" Android Tablet for around R1000

I agree, the tablet is by far the best solution, especially since the display and touch screen interface is already sorted.

I bought the PI from RS was R457 in total with a good quality HDMI cable and a 1200mA power supply. I am planning on using it for home automation in my new house including controlling/dimming lights in the lounge which will integrate with my mediaPC (over LAN), controlling the other lights in the house, irrigation, etc. Just need to get motivation to invest the time.

Yeah that's the awesome thing about the tablet, it includes the screen.

Hmmm I'm still on the waiting list of RS... Yeah thats a good plan, my cuzin uses an EEE Box for his home automation, the possibilities are endless. He also wrote an interface so he can control everything on his phone via internet from anywhere, and check the temp, see if the doors are closed and if the alarm is on, he even hooked it up to the power box so he can see the current electricity usage.
