R/T button????

Morning all. Hope everyone is as amped for the weekend as I am?

Quick question; what does the R/T button on an E46 MF steering wheel (like the one in the pic) do? I've never given it much though but this morning I was messing around in traffic, because I was bored, and found that if I'm listening to CD's and I press the R/T button then my track skip back and forward steering controls don't work (but I can still skip tracks on the radio unit). Then if I press the R/T button again, I can use my up and down arrow buttons to change tracks. I pressed the R/T and then up and down arrows but nothing seemed to changed, unless I was upping my kilowatts which I wouldn't have noticed as I was sitting in traffic?!?!?!!?

If I'm not mistaken that is referring to Radio/Telephone. It enables you to switch between the two.

ooooooooh, I took out my telephone and replaced it with cupholders and the only tape I own is Monster Hits 2 so... won't be using that button then. Maybe I will get a little NOS sticker and stick it on the button.:roflol:

It means Roadnormal and Turbo.... :roflol: Should let you switch between radio and telephone (if you have the functionality of course).

But if it's a mode button basically, how come I can't switch between radio and CD shuttle then?

If the car was fitted with a phone system,it only switches between the audio you are listening to and the phone,so basically not between audio modes (radio/cd etc.). It's a pretty simple system.

Mine had a phone system, but I took it out and replaced the console section which housed the phone with cup holders instead. Gave the BMW phone to my nephew to play with.

Interesting. Haven't seen many others with telephones, didn't find it useful?

I wonder if the E46's came with Bluetooth... and would the R/T button switch between radio and the Bluetooth connected telephone...

Was going to be a mission to get dual sims and work between the car and my cell. I'm going to put in a parrot blue tooth kit which they can connect up to the voice command button on the steering which is much better.

Mine is fitted with the bluetooth module, eventhough you can't access it if there isn't a phone installed, I had to plug in my obd2 cable and access the BT module to pair it with my phone. (The phone system came with the pair button, can't find a pair button anywhere in my car, that's why I did it via obd cable)

The RT button doesn't switch between Radio Telephone as you would think, it rather switches over the steerings buttons to radio and telephone, that's why it changed the track's, and then didn't when pressed, it was trying to browse through your phone book.
